Ah, ok. It's here. I work downtown and I've driven through that area a bazillion times. Never noticed that place, though.
I've been to Red Cat. The food I've tried was bland, but the music really made up for it. Really a good atmosphere the times I've gone.
Well the experience at Red Cat Jazz Cafe was a very good one. My girl loved it, the atmosphere is great, the staff is very friendly and the music was amazing. There was this lady up there playing jazz flute, and their guitarist was badass. There was a part during the show when they asked someone in the audience to come up on stage and sing the song that was being played ( I don't remember the song name) and it was pretty cool. Of course the women who got up were drunk but they sang pretty good. I did not have anything to eat because we got there at almost 10:30 and I did not want to eat late but their hot wings and fries looked really good. There was this guy eating them and he looked like he was realllllllly enjoying them, like he ate those wings with passion. Like I said my girl enjoyed it, she had a couple of drinks and really wants to head back as soon as we get a chance. I also enjoyed it but I wish we would have gotten there a little earlier and maybe made a reservation, we had to sit at the bar, which was not too bad but I would have preferred to sit in one of the booths. I recommend making a reservation and getting there atleast before 9:30. Drinks seem to be priced ok although since I don't drink I don't know what the standard is. Anyway, we both had a good time and we will be going back pretty soon. Thanks to famicom for the recommendation. also, I am not used to these kinda nicer places since I usually hang out at Dan Electro's Guitar Bar on Thursday night for the blues jam and I usually come back with a headache and smelling like smoke. Which I don't mind since I get to listen to live blues but its nice to not go home smelling like cigarettes.
Depends on who you are with. I went with my GF and we met another couple we're friends with. Ate, drank & had a great time.
Agreed - I like those places. My favorite is Scott Gerstner's (sp?) Sky Bar - on Montrose- near Westheimer-across from Walgreens --Old school music- good dancing- fun crowd If you do go downtown to Sambuca or Red Cat- check out the mezzanine at Magnolia hotel- they used to have light jazz- nice
Does Red Cat's take reservations? Was there really slow-dancing? Was it a really social bar scene, or was it more for couples' private conversations?
There was actually no slow-dancing. Although I guess if you wanted to, you could just stand next by your seat and dance. I suggest making a reservation if you are planning on going for the live show. Otherwise you could just sit at the bar but they do have booths and tables which is alot more comfortable if you are going to eat. I would say it would be better for private conversations, most of the crowd there seemed to be close to 30+ which means me and my girl were probably the youngest ones there. Nice place though to just lounge.
I was asking because I was thinking it might be a nice place for me and my wife to visit. We're both 38 and would not want a social place as much of a quiet dinner conversation place.
