    I have all of them.

Wii - Our Wii is almost used exclusively for parties or when a fairly large group of people comes over. It is awesome for get togethers with friends and family. The only other use for the Wii is for games that are exclusive Nintendo, like Mario Kart, Mario Galaxy, and Zelda.

XBOX - I do almost all of my online console gaming on my XBOX. Live is just better. The Halo games, COD, etc I play on XBOX>

PS3 - I am playing my PS3 more and more often. I originally bought it to be my main Blu Ray player. When Bluray first came out, the least expensive, yet top notch Bluray player on the market was the PS3. The comp. Sony stand alone Bluray player at the time was something like $900. It still makes a great Bluray player and I watch the majority of my movies on it. The blessing and the curse of it as a Bluray player is the Blue Tooth. Its great for blue tooth devices, but you can't use universal remotes on it. As far as games go, I have enjoyed RPGs on it such as Dragon Age: Origins.

    Hope this helps.

Which games? Other than SSBB, none of the other games interest me or are best played using standard controllers.

Didn't we do this a couple months ago and ps3 won? Oh well, 360.

psp and ds are not consoles.

I have all that you listed except the DS.

The PSP is just a handheld console, so it is probably not ideal for a family

    As for the big 3.....

The first one I would toss out it the PS3. I have one and have turned it on exactly twice in the past year. It's just a crappy system imo: terribly designed controller, less user friendly interface for the kids, horrible online play, less online features, etc.

So, that leaves you with the Wii and Xbox 360, so I will make a case for both:

Wii - If you have relatively younger children, this would be the ideal selection. It is the best to play with a group of friends or if you just want to play with the family. It does not have great/deep games, but it has a high fun factor, particularly in racing, sports, and competitive games.

xbox 360 - If you like 2k or other sports games, this is a good way to go because it has the largest and best online community in gaming. Plenty of kid friendly titles and arcade games. It has the best controller of any console, very simple and easy interface, like I said THE BEST online gaming there is, and lots of great online features.

My personal favorite is the 360, by a long shot, but the Wii is a great family console.

You can get a PS3 and then buy PS Move when it comes out which is pretty much Wii HD.

That means you get the best of both worlds.

Considering you want to play sports games on it, but that you aren't a hardcore gamer that is going to use it a ton, I would give the edge to the PS3.

You won't have to pay for online play if you want to play against live opponents in sports games. I believe Xbox Live's online fees are moving up to $60 a year. So that is one consideration. The other is that the PS3 doubles as a blu ray player if you need one of those.

That edge to the PS3 may be swayed depending on if there are any major first-party titles that you like to play.

xbox makes money doing it, why wouldn't they charge. They charge 60 bucks and still have more online gamers, that must tell you something.

And Valve has no room to speak, I for one am pissed at them after releasing a fully priced sequel to Left4Dead less than a year after the first one.

    lol umm what?

Ok I can give you the ps3 has an inferior controller to the 360, but it isnt "terribly designed". And please elaborate on "less user friendly interface for the kids, horrible online play, less online features, etc"

For sports games, The 360 looks and runs much nicer, especially NBA 2K.

Next I would look at the exclusives for the next 2 years. Both systems have great stuff coming out it just depends on what kind of tastes you have.

    They are very similar...

Yes but don't you think it's troubling that you are already paying 50 bucks (about to be 60) per year for an online service and you are limited to 1 free update per game as well as ADS on the Dashboard?

PS3 users pay no money, have no ads, and get free updates whenever they want.

Are you saying you can stream Netflix through the XBox without XBox Live? If so, how?

    Maybe I'm misunderstanding your post.

IMHO, the PS3 is the best option for a family...It's a media center, gaming system & blu-ray player...If you want to play online, its free and very easy to set-up and each family member can have their own profile...

If you were strictly a gamer and that's all you cared about, then 360...

The interface is less user friendly, how to I expand upon that? Look at both of them. PS3's is kinda boring and bland, while the 360 has lots of visuals with easy and quick access to many different features imo. The online play for PS3 sucks. NO ONE uses a mic which makes the online experience a lot better. The 360 has more players and in my experience is more competitive.
360 also get updates at least a month before the PS3 a lot of the time and exclusive updates. Most games don't have more than 1 or 2 updates anyway.
