Yeah I pretty much got that. I thought it looked good knowing beforehand that the game was not expected to be released for probably close to 2 more years( I think I read you saying that somewhere). I was actually surprised at how good it did look being that it is this early in development. If my early post seemed critical I apologize. I was going for an exact opposite tone in that I will be really excited to see the finished product down the road. That one I will be buying at full price
Look! it's DaDakota! DaDakota, are you in any way still associated with digital anvil? I ask because I'm actually looking forward to Freelancer in much the same way that I did Privateer 2. Unfortunately, (respectfully) I found that while Privateer 2 was chock full of the best live-motion video clips ever to be found in a video game to that point, as well as tons of cool cutting edge 3d Studio Max rendered scenes for each individual planet, the game ultimately ran on a very simplistic gameplay dynamic with a very limited number of 'markets' as defined by the number of star systems. I was incredibly disapointed, in that on the surface the gane seemed very meticulously constructed when judged through the quality of the cut scenes, there ultimately seemed to be little "meat" underneath. I found, on the other hand, that Conquest:Fronteer Wars was a game that had quite a bit more depth than I ever got from the whole series of Wing Commander/Privateer games, but I never quite felt the sense of anticipation that I did when I bought Privateer 2. The game always promised a much more limited scope as a RTS game. In other words, I'm hoping that you can let me know whether I should expect a "Privateer 2" like disapointment or whether the game will display more depth under the surface... Or, then again, you may have nothing to do with the whole thing, in which case you can just blow me off... In any case, I unreservedly recomend Conquest:Fronteer Wars. It's a really good game. Unfortunately many good RTS games seem to fly under the radar of public opinion and quickly find themselves in the bargan bin. I know that I've personally bought pretty much all of the "Close Combat" series of games from the bargin bin, all of which were outstanding games. Finally, Mr. Yao, if you need help configuring a network setup for you and Mr. Nachbar as suggested in another thread feel free to contact me. For you I think I can manage to donate my time.
Speaking of Privateer 2... How the hell can I play that? Ever since I got a new computer like 3 years ago, I've been dying to play Privateer 2 for the 2nd and 3rd times. However, the installation process is so annoying. Apparently, I need DOS Cd-Rom drivers. Can ya help me? Privateer 2 - definitely the coolest computer game of all time.
