You're serious about this? Do you live in New York? Do you not read the Daily News and New York Post which have totally slammed Bruno, Silver and Pataki as the 3 blind mice/Stooges who completely bungled the job? The only bipartisan thing in all of this is that both Dems and Republicans mucked it up.
I don't think you answered the Question Are we more Obligate to Iraq than our own people in our own country in New Orleans? Rocket RIver
we broke iraq, we are obligated to fix it. new orleans should be rebuilt by private industry/consumers and no the government.
I am absolutely NOT in favor of allocating TAXPAYER money to rebuild New Orleans. It should be a privately funded matter. The government of New Orleans is inept. It has done nothing to earn my hard-earned money. Let the real estate developers and industry take care of this issue. The people of New Orleans got themselves into this mess by building in low-lying areas, not heeding warnings to evacuate, relying on the government for their existence, etc. I'm in favor of directing federal funds to competent individuals.
What happens when New Orleans gets wiped out again? It will happen eventually. Are we supposed to keep rebuilding? I'm all for helping the people get back on their feet (with taxpayer money) but I am not for rebuilding New Orleans. It sucks but it is also a waste.
no. fema should help the people. if the people choose to reinvest in new orleans then they can... if they choose to move to houston or some other city and buy 47" flat screens then so be it. yay!!! i get brought in to it why are you talking about feelings and sympathy?
Moron. As it was when it was first founded, New Orleans is a major port through which flows an enormous amount of our economy, particularly goods to and from the midwest. Ports need people to work and working people need other people for services. We can't not rebuild NOLA. (Though the administration is doing a good job of not rebuilding.) There has to be a city at the mouth of our greatest river. As to your last sentence, I guess it depends on what you mean by competent. I would argue it doesn't mean large corporations who win no-bid contracts and subcontract out the work while keeping 80 cents out of every dollar. That's not right, that's not American, and that's not competence.
MB do you feel the same about all those houses and areas in Florida that get rebuilt every four or five years after the latest hurricane?
I have yet to hear a compelling argument as to why the GOVERNMENT should pay for the rebuilding of the city, as compared to PRIVATE INDUSTRY. Please explain. The residents and refugees of New Orleans have been sucking on the government teet for quite some time, and in many cases squandering the $$$. Why should we continue to fund this nonsense?
