Two PFs I think we would at least have a realistic shot of obtaining might be PJ Brown of the Hornets because their season is in the tank and they might want to move in a differnt direction or Jerome Williams of the Knicks because they are stacked at the PF spot and Williams gets very little time. I wouldnt trade our #1 for either of them but I would try to see if we could move someone for either of them. Other than someone like those guys I just dont know what other moves we could make at the PF spot. Right now with our record our #1 pick is pretty good. It would net us the 11th pick in the draft. So that is a decent asset either to keep or trade. But I dont think it is enough right now to get a Tyson Chandler or Chris Wilcox. And we cant get Swift because he cant be traded this season. Too bad When we get closer to the trading deadline teams will be looking towards next year either for cap relief, shorter contracts or trying to make moves to get something instead of losing something for nothing. Teams will get more desperate to make moves and hence I think there might be some good bargins out there at that time.
Would anyone consider Kwame Brown in the offseason??? I just read an article on realgm.com that said he will be a free agent this summer and is not getting along with the coach. I am not sure if he would be the best fit.....Just wondering what everyone else thinks. I didnt want to start a new thread about it. Last season he averaged almost 8rpg and almost 11ppg.
Jerome Williams I like the idea. (not AD..people seem to think he has something left, but if you watch him, he's pretty much done unless you want 15 mpg) PJ--I wish. But I don't think he's going anywhere? I'm thinking management will be nice to him...he took less money to come back because he wanted to stay in the NO area. That was his prime concern. I can't imagine them trading him after that..
They probably didnt imagine the team going 1-15 and into the crapper. Maglore will be out 3 months. Mashburn is done. And expect Baron Davis to take a LONG time with his rehad. This team is done for the season. Just look at the Darrell Armstrong trade! They admitted they are looking at young players, in this case Junior Harrington. I would expect in the second half of the season to see more of JR Smith, (who I think is dynamite!). I expect the Hornets to look to move both Wesley and PJ Brown. I know PJ came back to the Hornets to stay in the NO area, but Houston isnt too far away from NO (compared to other teams that is).
I don't think we have a realistic chances at getting another PF that will help us this year. I think instead... we need a system change. More zone and help defense. Our PF should not be chasing the Dirks of the world around the key... we will lose that battle everytime. Go Zone... Go Zone. Mix up the defense. Taylor, Padgett, Spoon and Howard are not without rebounding and defensive skills... we just need to put them in the right system.
Would love Kwame at the 4 spot, tremendous size and athletic ability. He might be a bargain right now.
Mo blows dunks every other game for a reason. He can get a nasty looking dunk if nobody is guarding him, but if a defender is in the way and Mo needs a little extra lift to get over a set of outstretched arms, he just can't do it. And if the defender would be fouling a layup to get an "and 1" then they would probably be fouling a dunk attempt in the same situation. And by my count, I'd say there is a definitive difference between the percentages of a challenged dunk attempt and a challenged layup. I'm not saying that having a dunker at the pf is in and of itself the answer. But if you add everything together (in terms of offense, defense, and rebounding) an athletic 4 that can grab rebounds, guard some of the quicker pfs, and can finish plays at the rim when we break down the defense seems to be much more important to this team than guys that have one-on-one skills and shooting ability. Getting these younger guys like Chandler and Kwame Brown through FA might be tough. They'll be restricted FA and will probably want more than we can offer anyway. Swift would be perfect, and he will be an unrestricted FA, but if he was looking for a full MLE deal (which is all we can offer) he would have taken it this past summer, so I doubt we can land him. I'd definitely look for someone in the draft. If we can get a draft pick in the late teens/early twenties then I think we'd be in good shape to find somebody that fits the mold.
Sorry, While EG's problems are not Van Gundy's fault, this organization's response to EG's problems is their public record of how not to develop a teenage kid. Van Gundy prides himself on his loyalty to his players. Griffin was not given a chance after he went through his trial and punishment. That speaks badly for Van Gundy and this organization. You could see this coming a mile away. Minnesota now has another proven 4 who makes our foursome look like children, and we have nothing to show for an investment of 3 first round draft picks in one supertalented immature kid who apparently was given little to no supervision by this organization and coach and was given no support following his rehabilitation. For the record, I believe that Boki too, who has worked hard, and not been a problem, will wind up playing for another team next year and thriving with them. Watch it happen. Loyalty??????????????????? Where is it??????????????????
our guy is drew gooden, not sure how much it would take for us to get him though : \ we might be best off just hanging on to your 1st rd pick and making sure we come away with a good PF in next year's draft Drew Gooden - 12.6 ppg 10 rpg 1.2 blk 1 stl 83% FT 49% FG
I would love someone like Chris Anderson, I know he is not a great player but atleast he might be able to pester some of the quicker fours in the league.
chris anderson would get own3d by power forwards in the West he is more of a high energy guy off the bench at forward
sure if he was guarding them every minute every night but as a change of pace he would work IMO. He is a good leaper and long enough to be able to D them up in spurts which is more than I can say for anyone we have right now.
