There are a significant proportion of people in NI that don't want the British to leave... personally I feel there should be a plebicite (sp?) and that be and end of the matter. The problem is that whichever side lost wouldn't leave it there. rockHEAD: I'm sorry that some small-minded people on a bulletin board upset you. The vast majority of people in this country don't feel that way. Don't forget, however, that the UK has been the victim of plenty of terrorist bombings over the last 25 years.
I'll have to make the usual English response to this: I believe, 36 years ago, England beat West Germany in the most important football match of them all
nah, the rest of the world took notice of the germans and put an end to their attempted conquest of the world. "la la la la Life goes on"- The Beatles
Some English guy wrote this song: The Luck Of The Irish John Lennon If you had the luck of the Irish You'd be sorry and wish you were dead You should have the luck of the Irish And you'd wish you was English instead! A thousand years of torture and hunger Drove the people away from their land A land full of beauty and wonder Was raped by the British brigands! *******! *******! If you could keep voices like flowers There'd be shamrock all over the world If you could drink dreams like Irish streams Then the world would be high as the mountain of morn In the 'Pool they told us the story How the English divided the land Of the pain, the death and the glory And the poets of auld Eireland If we could make chains with the morning dew The world would be like Galway Bay Let's walk over rainbows like leprechauns The world would be one big Blarney stone Why the hell are the English there anyway? As they kill with God on their side Blame it all on the kids the IRA As the bastards commit genocide! Aye! Aye! Genocide! If you had the luck of the Irish You'd be sorry and wish you was dead You should have the luck of the Irish And you'd wish you was English instead! Yes you'd wish you was English instead!
Wow rockHEAD, I understand how pissed you probably got, but I think I'd leave those images where there was some context. Taken out of context, they are quite offensive.
i'm irish...my family came to america (landed in philly) because a relative was a protestant minister and he was hung....ironically, they left war and death to come to war and death..the two boys immediately enlisted in the Union Army for the Civil War. hard to imagine. so i'm well aware of the english in ireland...but again, who is blameless, bob?? who in the world is blameless??
Oh really? Tell that to the native inhabitants of that island... Or are we still responsible, since we colonised Australia 200-odd years ago?
american indians are blameless?? really??? nothing to cast any dispersions on them about at all, huh??? scalping babies doesn't bother you at all, huh?? but they were just defending their land, right?? from those fearsome babies!!! no culture...no person...nor any human institution is blameless, bob. search history and you can find something to blame just about everybody for. i also said "civilized" societies in a previous post, bob.
I'm confused as to what exactly you mean by blameless. Did the Indians invade Canada and scalp their babies? Exactly what babies are you talking about? I merely pointed out, in a thread titled "Things to love about England" no less, how the English invaded Ireland. How you got to Indians scalping babies is beyond me.
why you posted events from 500 years ago is beyond me. that's how we got there, bob. people were talking about the beatles, elizabeth hurley and fish and chips...you throw out events from the 17th century...that's how we got there, bob.
If I may interject briefly: TMBG's 'Istanbul' is a cover of a song originally done by The Four Lads in the 1950s. OK, as you were. (Although all this stuff about England being the uber-coloniser of doom isn't really up for debate, is it? I mean, everyone knows this already, Bob. Most of the countries we're posting from were forcibly founded under their imperialist principles. Old news.)
