The Rockets have filled the roster with such awesome role players that all we need is that one superstar player to make us a true contender. If we don't trade Tmac and keep his expiring contract for ourselves, then $20mm come off the books next year and we can pick up a great player. Also this is Tmac's contract year, and who knows how he'll play when he comes back. He might have a great season and help the Rockets go deep in the playoffs again. What are your thoughts about keeping Tmac's exprining contract for us to use next offseason?
Unless we can add some one who will help us immediately and in the future in return there is really no point in trading him. His expiring is much more valuable to us now because of Yao being a big question mark. Best case scenario: T-Mac comes back as strong as ever and proves the nay-sayers. worst case scenario: T-Mac's contract expires after the season after being a disappointment during the season and we use that money to pursue a Wade or Bosh.
It depends on what they can get for him. I'm guessing the right deal hasn't presented himself. He'll be off the books anyway after this season, so there's no reason to rush him out unless we can get something really good for him in exchange. May be worth waiting, having him play this season, he could actually help us and bring his own value up in the process (for a possible mid-season trade) if it turns out that he's back to being the old T-Mac. So anyways, no rush. Let him stay.
I really am pushing for Tmac to return and play again for the rockets. Hope DM doesnt trade him... Let him play again
I will wait and hope that he is gone before the start of the season but it does not look good. This guy does not need to be in H-Town anymore. Good Luck with your new team TMac.
With Yao's injury, all the more the team must trade Tmac to get players who can contribute right away. It would be a waste not using his salary to obtain healthy players. The team needs as much firepower and having his salary idle is not a smart move.
Reasons why not to Keep Tracy: 1. Even if we let his contract expire, the only amount we have to spend is not even close to 20 million range. It'll likely be less than 9 million. 2. And if Tracy comes back (which would be a miracle), he still can't take us past the first round. There is a reason why his teams never pass the 1st round.
Wow, I just read Tracy's website, I didn't know he had shoulder surgery in May. Wow, talk about a comeback, if he can do it, by the start of pre-season. Wow...sorry for being late.
Actually, it's probably the other way around. Tmac's contract isn't likely to get us that big home run guy, it may get us one or two solid starters, but we're kidding ourselves if we think that's enough to go deep in the playoffs. Our biggest problem ont he court has been that go to guy, two solid starters isn't gonna fix that. like Morey said, it's tough to trade tmac because he still has the exact skills we need, so you're tempted to just wait it out, if you trade him then you'd want similar skills in return. However, for just a contract you're not likely to get those similar skills back. We may get a boozer type, and that would be a big name, but what's the point if he still won't fill our need of having a go to guy who can get a good shot wheneve he wants and especially at crunch time? With Yao injured now, especially if he goes for the surgery and is out the whole year, we're not going to be at the to be at the top of the west, it's pointless to bring in players just for the sake of getting talent for tmac. It makes much more sense to wait it out, test if tmac can come back, if he can't then just let his contract run out and then let's go after the type of players we actually need instead of settling for any big name that's offered..
There is also no assurance if they can try luring a player from next year's free agency. As long as they can get value in return, the team must try to move him. Waiting is ok but after the trade deadline, it may be too risky in hoping for a chance in nabbing a big time player next year. A lot of teams have cap room and could offer more thus leaving the Rockets with a second rate player or nothing at all.
The OP is ok with trading T-Mac IF FOR THE RIGHT PRICE. His contract is worth a lot of struggling teams. Morey shouldn't jump the gun and trade him less than what his contract is worth. Keep him around for a mid season trade when teams are getting desparate.
and he should shave that beard of his so he can feel younger and play better Also, I thought you were one of the guys that wanted McGrady gone from the Rockets? I fully support him staying if that's how the offseason pans out and DM doesn't find the right move for him. I think/hope he will be committed to helping the team next season. He'll want more money so at least 80% Tmac will/should come back to play so he is offered at least a 7-8 million dollar/yr contract for the '10-'11 season.
KEEP TMAC! Signed seriously we should keep him..im confident that when he comes back he'll put up solid games and with the AB Ariza Tmac Scola Tandem..who knows what can happen
We should keep TMac because every true tade option really dont make sence and are panic moves by the team. Keep TMa see if he can play see if the team and slip into the playoffs is so andhe plays well we dont have to rebuild if Yao cames back. Worst case senerio Yao dont come back TMac sucks we still got some reliable role players at a cheap cost we can rebuld properly because TMac and Yao money comes off the books in the next 2 year.
