Is this the project at EADO near Minute Maid that would put parts of the highways underground? If so, as someone who owned a rental property RIGHT THERE up until last month, and stood to gain - I didn't care if this project got canned.

But I do remember Trump wanting to prevent public housing from reaching the suburbs. I say you let this happen and start moving the projects to the burbs. Lulz.

Yes this is the same project.

I would think that gentrification is already pushing lower income folks out to more affordable areas outside of the City. There is public housing being built in East Downtown (I know I've heard of several).

Ultimately, they are acquiring to the east of 45 because that land is cheaper. Unfortunately, that's where lower income communities are at as well. I'm not a fan of roadway widening, because ultimately that further encourages development up north, and we will be at the same place again 10 years down the road. They really should focus on building a commuter rail all the way to Conroe and convince people to give up their cars for traveling via train instead.

Our work areas in Houston are spread out a little (Downtown, Galleria, Medical Center, Westchase, etc), so it is challenging to convince people to take public transportation, but ultimately, we can't keep attempting the same solution expecting a different result. The light rail does grind my gears a little since it's just as slow as traffic which is what discourages individuals from taking it. I wish we would of been more progressive back in 70s and 80s and we wouldn't be stuck in this mess of trying to retrofit a very expensive system. It doesn't help that we don't have any zoning laws to help planners appropriately plan.
