If he can still hit that jumper from the corner-free-throw-line, set picks and pass, then he will be exactly what we need while we ease Yao back into his major role. If he didn't play for Adelman last year (he didn't) then of course his production fell off. He is tailor-made for our system, not Chicago's or wherever else he may have stopped. This is where he belongs.
Yeah tough to find a 34 year old 7-foot center: That shoots 43% from the Field That shoots 28% from 3's and has a worse rebound rate than David Anderson 3 years ago this is a good pickup. Now it better be a 1-year vet minimum deal Tell me again how this type of production 'spreads the floor'. Why wouldn't opposing coaches just let him 'brick away'??? Maybe Adelman wants C-Webb & Christie back too. They also know his offense.
some of you are missing the point...it's not just the numbers he will put up, but how he'll open the game for others. His knowledge of the system and ability to shoot out to the 3 pt line is going to help others around him. None of the other back ups will do that AND provide some rebounds and defense on the other end.
Not quite, but close. David Anderson had a PER of 12.11 last season. http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/holl...pn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics?position=c FWIW, Miller was 20th the year before with a PER of 16.75
No RV6, you're missing the point. If he shoots 43%, and 28% from 3's - that doesn't open up squat, whether he knows the system or not. If he shoots that poorly again, teams will let him launch (i.e. see Rafer for example of poor shooting player left alone to fire at will). If he shoots and rebounds worse than Anderson, than it's more than just numbers...it's production. If last year was just a 'down year', than you may be correct...but at 34 I'm not expecting improvement.
He did roll Scola, Chuck and Landry to the tune of 25/5/1/1/1 on 9-14 from the field (2-2 from 3) and 5-5 from the stripe last year @ our house. Maybe we're looking for some more of that Brad Miller goodness.
We do not need another under sized center, tyson Chandler would have been a great fit, rockets need a shotblocking backup center
Rafer's 3-pt shooting is actually respectable. FWIW, it's better than Kobe's. Vangundier, Miller's PER in last year's playoffs is a whopping 3.7.
Let us hope that was an expression of his respect for Coach Adelman, spurring him on to his true self, hidden amongst the weeds in Chicago, and not another dog having his day. I remember that game and you can believe that I wanted him, based on that game. As much as it pains me to say it, though, that was only one game. If we sign him, which is likely, may it not be the last.
What he lacks in shot-blocking he makes up for in knowledge of the motion offense, passing and to some degree, scoring.
Now he has to figure out how to con the Miami Herald into giving him a beat writer job so he can fulfill his fantasy of seeing Lebron in the shower......while eating a hand full of cheese doodles, of course
Who is expecting improvement at 34??? No one is. We're not drooling over a player's potential here. He is what he is. And that's not one year, especially one down year, worth of stats. He's got a whole career's worth of solid shooting numbers. Is he going to come in here and rewind himself back to his prime? Of course not, but but anyone who knows basketball knows a player's shooting ability doesnt just disappear, at least unless your name is Nick Anderson. The important thing is to be realistic when evaluating him. Yes, 28% from three isnt great, but as a center, if he can get it into the low 30s it can be used as threat, and that's not a stretch for him. Now look at his FG%, did it drop from 47% to 43%? Yes, and that would worry me if he was shooting 20 shots a game, but he's not. The difference between those two percentages was not even one shot. Something tells me a better team, like Houston, can get him at least one more quality look than chicago could last year. Not to mention "passing" isn't the first thing you think of when you hear names like rose, gordon, deng, gooden, hughes, Tyrus, salmons and noah. For many of them "high basketball IQ" also doesnt match. How the rockets and miller feed off of each other will be better than how he feed off of those bulls and you can be that's going to be enough of a difference to make his shooting respectable again. Afterall, his stats indicate a down year, it's not like his finger was amputed. That shooting touch doesnt go away, just look at his FT%. That's one of the best indicators or where the problem is. Tmac's sank, which shows his problem was coming from himself, not from team interaction. You can't blame free throws on anyone but yourself, if they're not right all of a sudden, neither are you. That part of miller's game hasnt gone anywhere, it's safe to say he's suffering from his role on the team and how he plays with them. It also cant be easy being an experienced vet surrounded by a team in diapers. Team environment makes play a significant role in how a player performs.
LOL! I was at home in Austin watching it on the tube, but yelling what amounts to the same thing, most of it not printable here.
