You are on a high horse because you are using a condescending tone towards those who enjoy reality TV.

As Crisco said, it's all about what the viewer finds as entertainment. You don't have to be a moron to enjoy reality TV, even the trashy ones. I can assure you that I am very successful academically, yet I enjoy watching trashy reality shows on MTV or VH1 because they are hilarious in the stupidity of the contestants and it allows me to mindlessly watch an entertaining program.

There are over 70 channels on cable. Surely you can find an program to your liking that is scripted.

Of course I can, that doesn't mean that I appreciate having one I get invested in canceled because it cost less than a reality tv show where they exploit people.

I don't really think that only stupid people watch reality tv, like I said, it's me venting my frustration that the networks get away with it because people continue to support it.

The Romans watched people kill one another for fun, doesn't mean it was quality entertainment.

I tried to watch Survivor during the 1st season, but the experiences of the military survival school I attended in the late 60's were still with me. It took me 2 or 3 more years to realize that Survivor was entertainment and not a life or death situation. Survival training is educational, not entertaining! I watch it about 70% of the time now. None of the others.

I actually don't think you really do look down on the viewers irl, but you certainly come off that way in your posts. Not the first time I've seen you be snippy in that regard.

I will say that the vast majority of the shows I watch are scripted, and it is a bummer when they are on the verge of being canceled every season. But I just have to accept that my tastes are niche. You too. We should be thankful for some of the great series that have been on the air. The quality of the really great shows have gone way up, imo.

I agree with HayesFan, reality TV is dumb entertainment for the intellectually impaired.

They don't call it the idiot box for nothing.

I am awesome because I only watch comedies that include a satirical nature and/or acerbic humor.

If a friend of mine said that their favorite show on television was something like "Two and a Half Men" or "Desperate Housewives" I would stick my nose up at them and never hold them in the same regard.

I don't know if you're being sarcastic or not.

    But if you aren't...I agree.

I Survived on BIO. I've pimped this show before with no success. It's the best, most honest, most intense, intimate, non-cheesy, no-acting reality show on TV.

For this same reason I don't watch any on Broadcast Television, where archaic decency standards keep the shows from being unique, interesting or realistic to begin with. I will admit to watching a few of the Bravo shows: "Flipping Out," "Million Dollar Listing" and "Rachel Zoe Project," not that there's anything wrong with that. I used to watch "Life on the D-List" but Griffin's schtick is getting really, truly old.

Why all the hate? I've watched a couple of reality TV show before, not the most riveting stuff, but sometimes you just get hooked. We live in a society that embrace the differences, sometime you just need escapism

As far as intelligence of the people that watch these shows, co-workers of mine talks about the VH1 ones, and there are some PHDs and 720+ GMATs among them, so maybe there's a bimodal distribution of people who watch these shows :D

In terms of what I watch, I saw Shark tank for the first time last week, and I think it's awesome, will definitely watch it going forward. The TO show was also enjoyed by me.

Well occasionally I have a crappy day and can sound more harsh than I really am. It's entirely possible that today was one of those days.

But honestly, if you didn't know I was female would you think I was being "snippy"? No, likely you would think I was just an opinionated guy. That's why I always hesitate to let people know anything about me on these boards, gender bias is rampant.

Reality TV = Sports for women. America's Next Top Model is like the Fiesta Bowl.

Some not all women think sports is just as moronic an activity to watch as watching aged ex-groupies trying to out sleaze each other into a has-been rocker's heart. If thats what it takes to get their inner competitive juices flowing and picking sides and keeping score of who's in the lead...Seeing who will make it or get cut is like them following college recruiting.

    Hows that for gender bias

No, I would have thought you were snippy and dismissive regardless of gender.

When I first read it, I thought it was a hmmm post..then I read your tagline.

I was bored at my parents house and was flipping though channels and wound up watching House Husbands of Hollywood...nothing to it, but it's kind of funny and of course, you realize no matter how hot women are, they have the potential to be total b*tches...

Uhm, okay? I use snippy regardless of gender and don't think of it as a loaded term at all. Sorry if I upset you, not my intention, really.

But gender bias has nothing to do with it. In fact, if I didn't respect your opinion I would have never made the first post. I thought it would lead to a little metacognition, but I guess not(and that's not meant as an insult either, if that is how you want to read that). That's cool though, I learn something every day.

Well stated. I happen to find both VH1 and Signing Day a bit vapid, but 7 years in Nebraska will probably do that to ya.

I watched a few reality shows this past year, for the FIRST time. Survivor, Big Brother, Hells Kitchen and The Amazing Race are the four I wasted my time on (none of which I watched from start to finish). Have to agree with the intellectual elitists in this thread, it got really boring and repetitive after a while.

To be honest I feel the same way about sports, the older I`ve gotten the less interesting its become, the only time I can sit through a full game is when its a playoff game. Regular season games seem like waste of time, if your team isn`t playing when it counts, its not time well spent. IMHO.

You know, that's some funny **** when you think about it like that. I do know guys who are wired that way as well(no homo). When I watch the reality shows what I dig is the social interaction between the cast themselves more than their hypothetical situations. I could see a lot of females enjoying that part of reality shows more than athletic events, for sure.

Not too long ago I called out a long post from a mod on a footy website where the gist of the post was "I can't trust a guy if they don't like football." I basically just tried to let him know how skewed his values were and I got blasted by a bunch of dudes on the forum(no homo). I don't think I'll ever be posting there again. :D And yes, cowboys website.
