We lack elite passing in our starting five and it's going to hurt come playoff time. Dmo and Harden are hands down our best passers on the team, Josh Smith makes some flashy passes here and there. Papa is a fantastic passer but with Brewer playing the way he is the minutes just aren't there.

Bev just lacks the court vision required of a PG. He would fit best as part of a three headed defensive beast of the bench with Brewer and Josh Smith. Headband mandatory.

There has been a drop off since Smith came onto the team and Dwight returned and that's in the form of IQ. With Dmo, Harden and Papa getting quality minutes our passing game was excellent and we made better plays. That has totally dropped off with the return of Dwight and insertion of Smoove. We've sacrificed that for what's meant to be better defense, though even that is debatable right now.

Though I will say our lob passes are terrible. Harden seems to be the only player able to throw a good lob pass. I'd love to see Papa back on the court, he actually has good chemistry with Dwight and gets him easy looks.

Can't do much but hope that we peak at the right time and play smart basketball.

I can think of 3-5 turnovers that happened "only because" the Rockets don't know where their teammates "should be" when passing the ball yet. I saw that happened a few time out there tonight that could've made a difference. I suspect the longer they play together those turnovers will be eliminated. That alone would've netted points versus giving points away over the past 5-10 games.

Oh one more thing...the Spurs will keep their bench in the game if they're performing better than the starters and/or keep the rotation going all game in and out. Hopefully Mchale starts doing the same. Sometimes his "old school" Celtics days of allowing starters to play through rough patches in games can be a curse.

Pat does exactly what we need of him to do. Defend and play gritty getting steals and rebounds. What do you guys expect him to do?? Harden handles the ball most of the time so Pat isn't going to get many assists. This thread is silly.

His defense has been subpar as of late, though. Bev actually had a really great offensive performance tonight -- unfortunately, so did Elfrid Payton.

I expect him to defend and hit shots and to minimize his time handling the ball. He's not been able to do these things. Not winning a ring with him as our PG. We need someone who can handle he ball without turning it over.

Rubio is the only one I can see being available, Ty Lawson is a pipedream and would have to give up a whole lot for. Truth is, we need an upgrade at PG as soon as possible. Coaching is not going to change and one creator on a team is not championship like. You need like 2 or even 3.

C'mon no shot we're getting Ty Lawson, maaaybe we can get Dragic but I don't think he's a must. But I think lots of people are underestimating how good Bev is for the Rockets. He is #9 of all PGs in 3PT % at 39% and career wise is 37.2% which is really good. He's top 6 of starting PGs in rebounds per minute and #1 in offensive rebounds per minute. He is easily one of the top 3 defensive PG in the league too.

Yeah he has some crap games but it happens, the guy is a stud and doesn't need the ball in his hands to be effective. The Rocket's main problem is not Beverley it is offensive inefficiency, there isn't much else to be concerned about right now.

Lawson or Calderon are possible targets to replace Bev in the starting lineup.

even a player like CJ Watson off bench will help greatly.

    worst case scenario... Isaiah Canaan;)

Shved and Papa(as a point forward), as much as I like them, are useless on this team if they can't make a open 3.

I want Jarret Jack on this team. A vocal leader is what this team needs. Beverly is a great pg for this team what he lacks is maturity and his ability to lead. Ty lawson is a good player but talent is something we are not short of.

I believe Bev got a little too hot-headed against Payton last night which led to some dumb mistakes

Bev is not an all-around player. But he's good at 3 and D. The problem is he's in contract year and trying to do too much of other things on the offensive end.

Bev hasn't fully recovered from that knee injury last year. He seems to be a step or two slower which is why his defense has not been the same. I am a Pat Bev fan but I now agree that an upgrade is needed. If Bev can't be a lock down defender anymore he shld only be the 3rd or possibly 4th guard in the rotation.

Payton torched Bev last night. Let's see how he rebounds against Westbrook tonight.

Beverly IMO is over rated as a defender, he's gritty yes, he plays with energy and passion, yes, that does not mean he's a great defender. Way too many times he loses his man and howard has to help which leaves Howard's guy open for an easy dunk. Then what pisses me off is when he gets frustrated and commits a stupid foul. So I agree we need an upgrade, can't have guys like Payton lighten you up, I may be just uninformed since I dont watch Magic basketball but I never even heard of the guy until last night, he was doing whatever the F*** he wanted to on Beverly.
