Isaiah is probably the best shooter on the team right now. Can play on and off the ball and he has a 40 inch vertical which makes him the most explosive player in the backcourt. He's also a 4 year college player (which so far McHale seems to like) and he was considered NBA ready after his third year according to Chris Paul. The Rockets had other areas that needed to be address but yet Morey drafted a point guard when they already have Lin, Beverley, and a part time point guard in Harden. Morey didn't get this kid expecting him to stay in the D-League all year. If he dominates down in the D-League... Morey will trade someone to make room for Isaiah. And that just may happen before the start of the season.
D League this year and the start of next year. If he proves capable of being a solid 2nd team PG, I think Beverley gets dealt at the 2014-15 deadline. I think Canaan will be a deserving starter in the next three years
barring injury, doubt he plays more than 200 minutes on the NBA team this year, aka not unlike Jones or Smith / Morris the year before. After that? who knows, i think he probably replace Brooks spot first. then go from there, obviously it depend a lot on how the other guys do as well.
Canaan is a SG in a PG body ala Chalmers Expect him to back up Harden in a 2 PG set or play off the ball with Harden at point

Again, Sam Cassel was a good defender and Canaan was considered a poor defender even in his small state school college ball games..
I see alot of brooks in his game which means he may be in the D-league for a couple years but he'll definitely be a contributor by year two.
I likened Canaan to a very poor man's Iverson before, but I think the Brooks comparison works as well. But I think Brooks came into a pretty good situation as a rookie. He had a coach in Adelman who trusted him and gave him opportunities. Also, the Rockets were in dire need of a scoring punch from the PG position to complement McGrady. As it stands, Canaan has a few more obstacles in his rookie year. He's got two young, quality PGs in front of him in the rotation. They could use some more scoring from the PG position, but it's not as urgent as in Brooks's rookie season. But I get the feeling if he is given the opportunity this season, he'll make the most of it.
