Aside from clearing out Alston for Brooks, are there examples of Morey making one for young players on a contending team? The other examples are from an era when we weren't contending and Morey was doing what he could to increase his inventory of assets for a big trade. Now, we're in a win now mode. While the Rockets will want to keep the development pipeline open, he's not going to have Howard and Harden suffer through the growing pains of a young PG just to develop the potential. If he shows real promise, I think it more likely Morey does a Gay-for-Battier type trade for a vet than an Alston-for-Lowry deal to open up the starter's spot.

Hopefully, he'll make better decisions than Chalmers, but I agree that this is a fair comparison. If/when the Rockets trade Jeremy Lin and promote Patrick Beverly to the team's starting PG, I think it's possible for Isaiah Canaan to eventually displace Aaron Brooks as the backup PG by March.

LOL, if Jeremy were playing in the Land of Canaan.

I don't expect the Rockets to trade a PG to open room for Canaan. I generally agree with your post, but I hate the "we're in the win now" mantra. The Rockets are in the win-now, win tomorrow, the day after that....for the next 4 years and probably a few more years after that considering the age of Harden, Parsons, Motiejunas, Beverley, Lin, Jones, and Smith.

I don't expect Morey to make shortsided decisions..at least not yet.

42% career 3-pt assassin at Murray... I think he'll be a feistier, more explosive version of Jameer Nelson.

Cracking the Rockets rotation? barring a trade or injuries, probably not for a while. Unless of course he proves himself during blow out games.

Dana Barros or Vinnie Johnson (though he was a 2)......Both were SCORERS.

And he could see the floor MUCH sooner than many think..trade or not ...great shooter and we need that around Dwight.

I doubt he plays at all this year. He's not exceptionally talented so you have to give him at least one year to adjust to the NBA game. I think the best comparison I saw so far in this thread is Mario Chalmers.

Canaan is exactly what the team wants next to Harden. A player that can spot up and shoot the three. A player that doesnt require the ball to be effective. He will probably be on the roster late in the season while spending time in the D league

I can see him as a gary neal type player

Short-sighted, no. But, he has (or should have) less latitude for gambling. I expect some of the bets he made, even the flyers that were pretty modest in costs (like trading for all the busts of the 2009 class), he won't make now.
