http://basketball.realgm.com/blog/219100/The_Next_Chapter_Of_Carter_&_McGrady Nice piece of writing, IMO. T-Mac & VC ... what could have been. Damn, I'm getting old.
Fuu ck.... In retrospect Giricek,Vaughn,LeClerque,Gooden is a no name team. Outside of Gooden who is not more than a solid player, no household names.
Gooden was a rookie back then too. Man that Magic team was terrible. It's fun to look back at Kobe's 05-06 team, Lebron's Cleveland teams, Vince Carter's early Toronto teams (to an extent), T-Macs Orlando teams and wonder what could have happened if they had good support around them.
LOL looking at stats per 36 minutes a lot of players would look pretty good. VC and TMAc do not play that much any more because they can't. The next chapter for these guys? Retirement.
You'd called a fool for not taking Tmac when he produced 30.67 PER that year....when he were given to you. first round my arse.... I would personally sit him on the bench in the first round... if he singlehandedly took us to the playoffs
what does have to do with the book? which chapter are you referring to? the chapter where the Rockets lose in the first round? that's a couple chapters like that
the illusory chapter where I have some fun........ If you want to blame someone, you are free to blame the former Front office. for not foreseeing the future.... and getting JVG first before Adelman Adelman.... second round easily ...... and based on his offense..... JVG come in...... Finals
that was when he was already washed up Guess if you want to dissect what went wrong you have to get down to all the moves they made Owner, GMs, coaching staff...... I said it again without McGrady, if they selected an offensive minded coach first, eg Adelman. He would have brought in, developed offensive players. Then get some defensive coordinators No doubt, that would be the wiser thing to do. We lost some offensive powers in Francis and Cat.
Tmac did nothing else than protecting his goods. If you got no job security and you are about to get fired, you try to cling on the last straw there is. He is millionaire but I guess he was selling cars...so you never know what his financial situation is.
Was Carter even really that much of an improvement? He broke down too. At least we saw Tracy's decline coming after he got that knee injury. For Vince his production just dropped out of nowhere.
he could have helped big time. it's better than zero production. Averaged 20 points when we wanted him. http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/cartevi01.html
That was the year Yao and Artest took us to seven games in the second round against the Lakers remember. Yeah Yao still got hurt in those playoffs, but who's telling what a bonus like Carter (or a McGrady that decided to play rather than shop around for a microfracture surgeon) would have been in a series like that.
