There's not even otis thorpe, maxwell or horry in this team and they're the closest to star support. And the star on the jersey doesn't count. We need a real 3rd star who can fly to the rim every possession without feeling pain on his knees. Do you really think parsons can do that?

We need to get Love or Aldridge without giving up Parsons. That might not be a possibility until the trade deadline in 2015.

Overrated or not..it certainly helps to have 3 stars. Miami heat? Oklahoma thunder? San antonio spurs? LA Lakers? Clippers? Boston Celtics? The list goes on. They've all had or have 3 stars in their teams

The Spurs don't have 3 superstars now, the Lakers didn't have 3 superstars. The 06 heat didn't have 3 stars. The Thunder don't have 3 stars (Ibaka is a great player, not a star). The Mavericks had only one star.

This nonsense about needing 3 stars is grossly overblown. The Celtics and Haet are the only true 3 star teams.

Secondly, it amazes me how underrated Parsons is to some. I'm not sure if there's a racial component to it, but the idea of him being more than just a shooter is more than they can handle. He averaged 18/6/4 in the playoffs, has shown the ability to be a lockdown defender, has length, passing skills on top of being a great shooter. He showed massive improvement in year 2, why would he not improve in year 3. Not saying hes LeBron but he is clearly much more than just a good little role player.

So if Ginobili and Tony Parker aren't considered stars..what do you wna call them? Magicians? When they can drive in and make circus shots in traffic on a regular basis..I guess you can call them magicians. I do like Parsons..but can he consistently do that? He's a great player but not in the caliber of being a star. Thunder had at one point harden, ibaka, westbrook, and KD. 3 out 4 of them are stars. And Ibaka isn't a star but is there much centers that can defend like him out there? No. Heat and celtics each had stars in their team.

Lakers had a 'stars' experiment themselves last year. BUt apparently they got OLD and injury creeped up to them. Kobe, MWP, Nash, Pau Gasol, Dwight? That's more than 3 stars..apparently it didn't work out.. but you know what they were hoping for but things didn't pan out.

The idea that Morey shouldn't be looking for a 3rd star is ridiculous. True, it's possible the Rockets can win a championship with just Harden/Howard and role players. But there's no question that a 3rd star would helping things A LOT.

If you just look at it from a value standpoint. How much is Howard worth if the NBA had a very loose salary cap(say up to the luxury tax line) and no max salary? Before the LA debacle, maybe $50mil? Now? Maybe $30-40mil? What about Harden? $30mil easily? Some Rockets fans say Parsons is the best contract in the NBA, but every star player is much more underpaid than Parsons.

So yes, if the Rockets can get Aldridge or Love, both like worth at least $25mil in a hypothetical no-max market, at a bargain price of only ~$15mil/yr, they are going to simply be that much more talented. And what's more? Their games all complement each other. This is much more cohesive unit than Lebron and Wade. There's literally no overlap in terms of production. All 3 can share the ball quite easily within the flow of the offense.

My point is, they need a 3rd star. You could argue there are many ways to skin a cat. But stars do attract stars. You gotta take advantage of that and prioritize by getting another star. You can get 3 point shooters at a dime a dozen from the d-league or the 2nd round nba draft. But getting star caliber players are rare. So you should take this opportunity and attractiveness of playing with Harden and Howard to really prioritize in getting at least 1 more star.

I think the blueprint for the modern "big three" ,not counting the Laker and Boston super teams of past generations, is the best model. I don't think you can duplicate what Miami has because they have Lebron. You need All-Star big that scores in the post and is a defensive presence to go with an All-Star wing that can score off the dribble and an elite shooter. If Parsons can duplicate his shooting from last year I just don't think you another person who is going to demand the ball.

I expect from 2 players out of Dmo -tjones -G smith -beverly and particularly Lin to step up big... in that case we dont need no 3rd (super)star... were asik able to just finish around rim last season we would be top 3 seed last year already and now we have howard...although i am sure Money is already patiently scheming and ploting to get us the 3rd

Did you watch Ginobilli play last year, he hasn't been a star for a few seasons. You are clearly mistaking big name with star player, so i'm guessing you don't actually watch a whole lot of basketball.

Parsons averaged 17 PPG over the entire second half of last season, so yes he can do it on a consistent basis.

The three superstar system is a lie. Miami doesn't have 3 superstars. They have 2 and a good supporting cast. The personal the Heat hired to based around their two superstars is what makes them truly dangerous. Did Chris Bosh went off in any of the NBA finals game? Nope it was the Shane Battier and Mike Miller.

If Miami is considered a big 3 because bosh put up big numbers in Toronto, I'll pass on getting a third "star" anything like him. I'd almost rather us focus on clutch role players than a a possible big fish in a little pond... Miami, when the game is on the line, is more a "big 2.3" than "big 3".

    It's true.

How do you find it hard to take him serious when he's stating facts?

I'm not a LOH but this has been discussed plenty of times and the majority came up with the same conclusion, Beverly played better next to Harden thru the playoffs and played better defense on Westbrook than Lin.

He's not bashing the dude or anything.

So do you consider Chandler Parsons a role player? It's an honest question. I certainly don't. He isn't an All Star, not yet, anyway, but how is he a "role player?" Do I not understand the term? If two superstars are surrounded by complimentary players, some near All Star level starters, and certainly some role players, like Delfino last season, for example, I don't understand why they can't win a title. It takes those two superstars creating mismatches (and nightmares) for defenses, starters like Parsons, who essentially has developed into a complete basketball player, one who can shoot, pass, drive to the basket, play and defend multiple positions, and do it exceptionally well, and your role players.

That Miami used a lot of preparation and a lot of luck to land arguably the best player in the game, and paired him with a top shooting guard, and an All Star power forward, and used them to attract very good players who'd been around a while, and wanted a ring bad enough to play for below market value, seems to have everyone thinking, "Hey, that's what you have to do to win a championship now. Nothing else will work!" I just don't agree.

I think a team with Howard and Harden, playing with Parsons, with solid guys at the 1 and the 4 (the 4 being our obvious weakness), and specialists off the bench, shooters and defenders, can not only make it to the Finals, but win when they get there. We have the best center tandem in the league. Easily. The value of that can't be understated. We have arguably the best shooting guard. We'll see if he really is this season, with a year under his belt as a starter, playing with a superstar center, and an off-season not spent with another team, training for another role. Parsons can play mulitple positions at a high level, and certainly has the 3 covered for years. If Lin plays at the level he attained after the All Star break when he was healthy, and continues to develop, with an excellent backup in Beverley, who has proven that he can step into a starting role if need be, and with the rookie Canaan as a 3rd point guard, we have that position covered. If Donuts or Jones show that they can be effective starters this season, we'll be in great shape at that position, with depth. If they don't? Why do we need a Lamarcus Aldridge or a Kevin Love if getting them robs us of a valuable player like Parsons, and much of our depth? I don't doubt that Morey, if need be, can find a solid starting 4 for a reasonable contract if our young guys don't work out. Milsap signed a two year deal with Atlanta for $9 million a season, which I consider a real value. With the constraints the new CBA puts on all teams, those guys will continue to become available in the future.

We don't have to recreate Miami. We are in the process of creating our own model for the league to follow, in my opinion.

Omer Asik, T-Jones, and 2 1st rounders for Aldridge? Would that work?

You don't need 3 stars if one of your 2 stars is either the best player in the league or playing that particular postseason better than anyone in the league. Examples: LeBron, Dirk, Jordan, Kobe, Shaq, Dream.

Harden and Dwight won't qualify as long as LeBron is in his prime. So the 3 star model would be preferable for us.
