Gooden will only be a minor upgrade to J.ho. I wouldn't go out of my way to get him.

What we really need at PF is a guy who can be the defensive counterpart of Yao. Then we'll have a two headed dragon in the paint - a defensive and offensive monster

Mike James and maybe Bonzi are 3rd scorer options, so in my opinion Gooden wouldn't need to score much. He rebounds pretty well. I also think that at 6-10 250lbs he can back up Yao. Could be valuable at the 5 within a running lineup, but how many other teams would be thinking the same thing. If the Cavs really want to dea him, he may be more valuable in the trade market than we think.

Gooden is not what we need:

    1. He's a bit of a space cadet. Think slightly smarter and slightly less athletic Stromile Swift, only instead of not playing any defense he spends his time bricking 10 foot baseline jumper after 10 foot baseline jumper.

    2. Doesn't shoot particularly well (can't be a high post compliment to Yao) and has post up moves that clank in the night.

    3. The Duck Tail/Bizzarro Soul Patch. Worst. Haircut. Ever.

You mean aside from the part where this chart proves he's actually a very good mid-range shooter for a big man?

In fact, exactly who are you thinking of that's actually a better mid-range shooter than Gooden? That's one of Gooden's biggest strengths against other candidates.
