There's nothing at all to do in Austin. A real ghost town.

Hit me up Brian, I'm down. I'm sure I could find some other people around campus that would be pleased to help. :D

Maybe that's why "all" these UT athletes are getting in trouble- there's nothing else to do?

I don't have a problem with Austin. I'm familiar wiith the city. In fact I've had plenty of fun on Lake Travis. I'm just wondering what they are going to be doing. That's all. To my knowledge it's the smallest place they've been.

Well take a look at what they've been doing in recent seasons... every other episode pretty much involves going downtown, hitting up a club and getting smashed and starting some drama. I think Austin can provide that and then much more.

As an aside "Freshman Diaries" on SHOWTIME was an interesting reality series not just in Austin, but at UT.

    egads! I agree with texxx.

It seems whenever Texas is put in the national spotlight, we always get stereotyped as cowboy-dressin, beer-swillin', horse-ridin', twang-speakin' hicks.

I don't doubt they'll have their fun on 6th street every night, but I can just imagine these "houseguests" being put in situations that stereotype Texas.

i.e. their "job" could be to "work" on a ranch, etc.

    Ugh!

Agreed. Austin needs to stop being showcased as the "in" spot to be in Texas.

It's too small, is essentially a college town, and is full of "hippie's" and "sh*tkicker's". Oh, watch the chaos begin!

If you're gonna come to Texas, at least go to a city. Hell, Dallas is better than Austin.

YES! Keep Austin weird. NOT enter Austin into the popular media's formula for hit show success.

And besides... MTV isn't going to cast nothing but illiterate cowboys/girls (that belongs to CMT), and I highly doubt that Texas will be cast as such after this show. There are so many state agency headquarters, not to mention the capital, plus of course UT... They'll get work that won't be typically "redneck/cowoby/Texan" work.

Besides working and getting smashed, what little time they do decide to spend outside of that, they can go all sorts of places. There are so many parks and even state parks aren't far off. There's all sorts of things to do at any one of the universities here - not just UT. There's the capital and all sorts of galleries and museums and crap like that. There are all sorts of concerts and sporting events.... There's enough to do here to occupy a bunch of alcoholics in the making.

    Relax all.

The folks who watch this will only care if the City knows how to party, and I think Austin will do just fine.

I hope they get treated like they did in San Diego, where people would taunt them and give them crap everywhere they went.

I think cities like Houston and Dallas is where you are likely to get the redneck factor. Austin just isn't like that. Austin has a good mix of people.

I'm glad they're going to a smaller city and Austin just makes sense. There's a huge college there and most of these kids will be college-aged.

Is Houston or Dallas a very young town? I know Philly, NYC, LA, San Fran, Boston, Miami, etc. are full of young people.

What young people live in central Houston? The UH kids? Eh, boring. I like HOuston, but I'm not sure it's the right setting.

bigtexx, just because you hate UT doesn't mean you have to hate Austin.

And the Rice kids probably get laid too much for MTV's liking...

I was pretty sure this was wrong right off the bat and, sure enough, after checking, population-wise, Austin's bigger than Boston, Seattle, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Honolulu.

How amateurish. Redo your search including the population of the entire metro area. Thanks in advance.
