    2015 Golden State Warriors*

    * Michael Jordan was not playing, or in top form.

Perfectly stated. No asterisk, but certainly not a battle of great teams given the injury bug. IMO Spurs-vs Heat twice was perhaps not as entertaining given Spurs' form of basketball, but certainly a "better" series.

I would not put an * by their championship but I think they should not at any point be considered along with the best teams in NBA history, no way.

    Warriors road to the title
    - 8th seed pelicans first time ever in playoffs (Won't count that against them since all #1 seeded teams play an 8th Seed)
    - hobbled grizzlies, Conley, tony Allen hurt through out.
    - rockets minus two regular season starters Bev/Dmo
    - cavs minus Kevin love and now an injured kyrie Irving, basically a one man show in lebron

So even if they win the title I'm a sweep, can't put them up there with greatest teams of all time like some are declaring in the media...

Imagine if the championship rockets faced the jazz with Stockton and hornaceck hobbled, faced the suns without Kevin Johnson, then played the Knicks with john starks and Charles oakley missing games. Rockets would plowed through all them

He came back in the middle of a season and didn't play the full 94-95.[/QUOTE]

I hear this all the time from a buddy of mine that Jordan was rusty and wasn't himself. His playoff numbers in 95/95 were this.

    31.5 PPG
    37% 3P FA
    48% FG
    5.6 Rebounds
    4 Assist

That is pretty much his playoff numbers every year. Your telling me that if he had the full season than what, he'd average like 40 ppg in the playoffs so they would have beaten the magic then beat the Rockets??

He got much needed rest from playing basketball, a player of his caliber does not need a full regular season to get back to his regular form. Horace Grant was also not on that Bulls team, they just weren't the same.

Pistons didn't get an asterisk when they swept an injury-decimated Lakers team.

    No champion gets an asterisk.

That's because we hated the Lakers. Now the Warriors are the hated team. ;)

Okay, how many people look at that Pistons championship as more than a fluke though? When thinking of great NBA championship teams, where does the 2004 Pistons rank? Probably near the bottom right? This Warriors team is in the same boat.

Wasn't he talking about the Pistons sweeping the repeat, defending champion Lakers when Magic the MVP was injured. Hobbled in game 2, 5 minutes in game 3 and out for game 4.

As for 2004, I wouldn't call them near the bottom. There were plenty of great teams in the league and they were the best. Spurs wouldn't have beaten them, either. Great defense and plenty of depth. Fluke?

Ah, gotcha. I think that's different because it was a rematch of the NBA finals the season before and the Pistons won it yet again the next season. That Pistons squad was legit.

As to 2004, I think if you got to pick historic championship teams to play over let's say the last 30 years, I think they would be one of, if not THE easiest to beat.

This year's Warriors are not the 2004 Pistons. That would have been the Hawks had they not died in the end.

Well no, I don't think this year's Warriors beat the 2004 Pistons.

Will there be an asterisk by the 67 wins when they lose these Finals to a depleted Lebron squad?

If they lose to the Cleveland Lebrons, what does that say about the Rockets? The guys we lost to injury are nothing compared to what Cleveland lost.

I love Harden, but Lebron is one of the greatest basketball players to ever play in the NBA. If the Cavs manage to pull this out, it's only because Lebron is basically a basketball god - one of those guys who comes around once ever 20-30 years. You can't measure a really good Rockets' run against that.

This. They won fair and square.

Where I have a problem is with people measuring this Warriors team against the all time greats when their road to the Finals was paved with a highly uncommon string of good luck from OKC being decimated with injuries, to the strength of the entire Western conference(and the League for that matter) being weakened by injuries. That happens to some extent ever year, but this year in particular was a true outlier in terms of the quality of the players injured and that in turn produced an outlier in the win/loss column and then again in the playoffs where their last 3 playoff opponents lost at least 2 starters for big parts of their series.

Golden State is going to have to prove they aren't just pretenders next year for me to buy into their claim to being a top team of all time.

I hate the Warriors, but this team is legit. Just be proud we pushed them in game 1 and 2. We win either and maybe we're in the finals.

There won't be an asterisk. There will be a giant scarlet L for biggest losers in NBA history. LeBron is one of the greatest of all-time, but if the Warriors drop this series, they'll never live it down(barring a catastrophic injury of their own).
