Fair enough. And I agree, especially when debating how a player's game may transfer from his old team to a new team, that stats can be misleading. Every situation is different; however, in this case I do think the fact that Iggy averaged nearly 6 dimes a game on a bad offensive team is intriguing. It is a better assist number than I would have guessed. I think your point is the number is nice, but what does it really tell us? Is he a good passer or is the high number a side effect of being the 76ers best offensive option therefore he dominated the ball which greatly increased his chances to dish? I don't know. This would requiring rolling the tape, and... well, I'll leave that to the professionals. I've got too much beer to drink. I can definitely say that I don't remember ever being impressed with his passing, hence my surprise at the number, but I also don't see him play that often.
Gasol around the league was regarded as a superstar. He was traded Feb. '08. Garnett was traded summer of 2007 still in his prime. I'm not saying it is likely that Morey will get his superstar but he isn't going to jump the gun and make a trade without trying to get that top 10 player. If the AI trade happens, I would be surprised that it happened and that it took place before the Melo and CP situations are settled.
By no means I am pro, or intend to be, but there is no need to be pro to have YOUR idea about how will his game translate if you change everything around, players, systems, etc, time will tell if you are right or not I don´t see not 1/100 of what these guys see, but from I can say, is that he has a very similar ability to pass as Ariza showed in the last part of the season, but because his ability to dribble is better, and attack the hoop, there will be a open man somewhere, and that is why he can bring another level to us, because when attacking the basket he keeps is body very well under control, unlike Ariza The ability to pass being almost the same for both, but because IGGY is a better dribbler, he will bring even more perimeter open shots for the team You are right, he is not a wow passer, but who is in this league, right??? PeAcE
I can't see why you all think Battier should stay and would trade Ariza! Ariza is going to improve with Yao playing, so his stock should be up. On the other hand Battier with so many good players on the team will be relegated to a late bench player, he is towards the tail end of his career and his stock is on the way down. His great defense is getting weaker by the season. Last season he had only about one great defensive game. It is he who should be traded like Hill before the season starts
I wasn't suggesting that you fancy yourself a pro, bro. If I were taking a shot, I wouldn't be that subtle. Actually, I appreciate the respectful debate. In the end, it sounds like we agree. You are right, ball handling is the big dividing line between Ariza & Iggy. Iggy and Yao together would create tons of open looks for Martin & Brooks. Ariza, although he does have the court vision, simply can't handle the ball well enough to create for himself and others on a consistent basis. Yes. The days of Magic and Bird are long gone...
Go look at Iggy's stats when Iverson played next to him (and no, not last year). He is in the same situation now as Ariza was before we got Martin.
I'm fine with Iggy but we have to wait till near the trade deadline to see who else would be available. Good things come to those who wait.
I've got some American proverbs for ya: Good things come to those with money.. The early money gets the worm. Don't count your money before they hatch. It's no use crying over spilled money. The proof is in the money.
I know you didn´t suggest nothing, we have very similar opinions about this actually From our litle exchange of ideias it looks like this trade is all flowers, but there is still some question marks Can IGGY shoot the open 3 ball consistently like Ariza can??? And can IGGY play at a hight level when it matters most, playoffs, like Ariza did when he was a LA??? I personally hope this trade gets done sooner rather then latter, because it will not take too many assets to do it, and because IGGY, should have longer time to gel with the team, after what I saw when Kevin Martin arrived, and the time it took to see them be effective, a guy that already knew the system, it takes time This of course depends on what Phily demands, I don´t think they will demand much right now, and they will not demand any less come trade deadline time It´s all cool brah PeAcE
I really don't see this trade happening. Theres just not enough proof that this is true anyway. Come on people, we've fallen for this type of hype already this offseason, lets not do it again. Anyways, this trade wouldn't make much of a difference unless it was Battier instead of Ariza in the swap.
What he said on their board I do agree with, however. Ariza, Hill, Bud, and picks for Iggy is too much. I would maaybe consider it if it was Ariza, Jeffries, and then tell them to pick one out of Hill, Bud, and picks although my preference would be to lose Hill > Bud > picks (those picks are freaking gold imo, I'm completely expecting something in the range of 5-11 for 2011).
So I reckon that IF it's true, then we should be pretty stoked because Smith isn't too shabby. He's a better version of Andersen (imo). One who can actually block shots and play D. Could be worse things that happen this off season I suppose!
