My initial thoughts... Beto is the anti-trump. Young, energetic, likable, relates to people on a person-to-person basis. It will be interesting if Beto shows the same energy traveling to meet people in small venues across the country as he did in Texas running for the Senate. Let Warren Sanders focus on policy discussions (where they are most comfortable), and differentiate by talking about broader themes and with a bit of "front porch" and "kitchen table" policy bullets.

Remember no one really knew Beto outside of his district in Texas before his campaign started - as people get to know him he will quickly rise up the Dem field.

True. Plus I think he already has "buzz" as people have been mentioning him as a candidate since before the Senate race was over.

Beta O'Rourke as the nominee for the Democrats is a possibility that would be almost too good to be true. Get it done, fellas.

I do believe that Kamala Harris will be able to do that.

Bill Maher rips the 2020 Democrats for looking weak. And so they do.

Bill Maher rips 2020 Democrats: ‘They look weak’

HBO host Bill Maher accused Democrats of appearing “weak” as he slammed the Democratic National Committee for excluding Fox News from hosting any debates among 2020 candidates vying for the Democratic presidential nomination.

“You want to be in the big leagues, but you refuse to play an away game?” the liberal comedian said on his show late Friday. “You don't like the questions that Fox News might ask, so you're deciding to not take any questions at all? How very Trump of you.”

“This is a fundamental problem with the Democratic Party,” said Maher. “They look weak, running from a fight when they should be in there throwing punches. Republicans never shy away from coming on this show, and they come with a smile on their face despite knowing that the only people in the crowd cheering them on are the three campaign aides they brought with them.”

Wow. Sanders by 15 over Biden in Wisconsin? It is not a lot of electoral votes in the nomination process, but this is a very important swing state in the general election. Have Democrat voters in Wisconsin really moved this far to the left?

Has Biden even formally announced and entered the race?

No, which is a good observation by you. Last I heard he was supposed to announce one way or another by the end of April.

He still does not look all that excited about this to me.

James Joyner at Outside the Beltway argues that Biden ought to pledge to be a one-term president if and when he chooses to run. Pretty interesting argument.

Latest CNN Poll: Biden 28, Sanders 20, Harris 12, O'Rourke 11. Nobody else over 10%

Biden leads CNN poll, but Harris, Sanders on the rise

Vice President Biden is leading a new CNN poll of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents that also shows increasing support for Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.). Biden, who has yet to enter the Democratic presidential race, is well out in front with 28 percent of those polled. In second place is Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), who is backed by 20 percent of voters.

But support for Harris in the poll has jumped to 12 percent, an 8-point increase since the most recent edition of the poll released in December. Following Harris is former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) at 11 percent. O’Rourke launched his presidential campaign last week. No other candidates received double digit support in the poll. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is in fifth, with 6 percent of support, according to the poll.

Beta O'Rourke in fourth place. That says a lot about how deep the Democrat's bench is. In other words, not very.

That doesn't make sense to me. One that would make sense is if he was expressly running on a de-Trumpification platform. Vigorous pursuits of prosecutions, truth and reconciliation commissions, etc. Half the country would hate him in 4 years, but then he'd be gone. The next D candidate could even trash him on the campaign trail. Like getting Weisbrod to be the fall guy who trades away Tracy McGrady and lets the next GM rebuild without the baggage. But, no, still not a great plan to commit to a single administration. I see no benefit in prematurely closing options.

Beto will always be around because he's not old AF, and he has some camera presence.

Klobuchar's standing reminds me of Kasich with the Republicans. Her road's a tough one. She has to win over the Biden crowd and stand out in debates as someone who defends liberal values while reaching across the aisle.

Like Kasich, at some point, the mob will think everything is bigly rigged and vote the FU candidate.

I don't think she'll withstand early primaries and will have to make money through grassroots...Bernie and Beto's sloppy seconds.
