Well, we will see. It is my sense that this kind of radical extremism will help her in the primaries, but if she were to win the nomination, this is going to be a real problem for her. People do not want a radical far left extremist as president, regardless of how many of the far left's "Identity politics" criteria she qualifies to claim.

If you really believe that the Democrat's winning strategy for beating Donald Trump in 2020 is to aggressively go as hard as possible to the extreme radical far left as the people on this end of the political spectrum can imagine, then I am not sure what to even say to you at this point.

    FBI -- Comey, Strzok, McCabe.

HPD -- Botched house invasion/murder of couple/corrupt police shooting

That's just for starters. And I could go on and on about the whole civil asset forfeiture thing.

But I don't want to derail thread.

Hillary Clinton will not run for President in 2020.

At least that is what she says now. But if Joe Biden either decides not to run or starts looking shaky, don't be surprised if she changes her mind and rides in to try to save the day.

She’s not running: Hillary Clinton rules out 2020 bid

That doesn’t mean Clinton won’t be a presence.

The pool of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates keeps expanding. But one name that won’t be in the mix is 2016 nominee Hillary Clinton. The former secretary of state and US senator ruled out a 2020 White House bid in an interview with the local New York City television station News 12 on Monday.

“I’m not running,” she said, “but I’m going to keep working on and speaking and standing up for what I believe.”

This is really too bad. I was hoping she would run again. Well, there is still time for her to change her mind.

It seems like from your perspective, a lot of mainstream ideas are radical extremist positions. I don't favor legalizing prostitution. But, it's a pretty common policy position, including from conservative libertarian types.

Again, I don't care if you or she support legalized prostitution. That is not the point. The point is that she is running for president and this is not an issue that the President needs to focus on, as it is a local level issue. The point is whether this is smart politics for someone who truly aspires not only to be the President of the United States, but to beat Donald Trump in a political contest that culminates in a national election in November 2020.

It seems that from your perspective, there is nothing that any Democrat leftist running for president could stand up and advocate for that would be radical and extremist. It seems that there is no such thing as an extreme radical leftist in your view. If that is wrong, please tell me what these people could advocate for that would be mark them as radical and extreme leftists, that Kamala Harris and many of the other Democrats who are running for president have not already endorsed. What?

Well, on the point, I made my point already -- that we've seen it before that a presidential candidate weighed in on local issues and did not suffer for it. In fact, I'd say Trump got some good mileage talking about local issues like Chicago's law enforcement, or the sanctuary city policies of California towns. So, I agree with you it's not a federal issue, but that doesn't mean by itself that it is bad politics.

As for my perspective on the Democrat leftists, several of the more progressive suggestions are too radical for me. The Green New Deal, at least how AOC has formulated it, is foremost of those. Reparations would be too radical, but fortunately no one has really advocated real reparations. Warren's wealth tax makes me uncomfortable. Now none of these things would mark the candidate as an extreme radical leftist to me. I just don't want this or that policy. I might still vote for Warren despite the wealth tax. I might vote for Booker despite his endorsement of GND. I might vote for Harris despite how she laughably characterized a middle-class tax cut as a reparations policy. I trust in the legislative process to work all this stuff out. Likewise, the problem with Trump is not that he's too radical conservative or too radical nativist. The problem is not his ideas, it's him. He doesn't respect the structure for good governance, process, and the separation of powers. He'll break rules, ignore norms, and trespass boundaries so he can impose his will on his party, on his administrative apparatus, on Congress, on the courts, on allies, on the media, on everything and everyone so long as he can get away with it. That puts me in the unfortunate position that I might have to tolerate some bad ideas from the eventual Democratic candidate because at least that person doesn't have a personality disorder that makes them completely unfit to serve.

    My previous question remains unanswered.

Can think of anything that would be radical and extreme hard left that these candidates have NOT already endorsed? It appears to me that most of the big name Democrats are rushing to come out and openly endorse many of the most radical positions that plausibly exist on the far left.

This is so different from what Obama did and even what Hillary did. This a new and novel approach for the Democrat left. Obama spoke in terms of these Rorschach ink blot test type statements for the most part and won to a significant degree because he lied about what his positions were on the issues. This current group is letting it ALL hang out. And again, if there is anything that is not just silly that is too radical for this current field of Democrats - as in they have not already endorsed it - so far neither you or anyone else appears to be able to enunciate what that might be.

I guess I figured that question was moot because there were things they did say that are too left for me. And, I have perhaps lost the thread of why the question of "how far left is too far" is interesting. Of course there are. But your question is piggybacking on policy suggestions that aren't even radical, so I don't see the relevance. But, to oblige you, here's some things I bet you a Democrat candidate could not say and still win the primary:
    • We will pay $X million to each black person and Native American in the country as restitution for slavery, genocide, discrimination, and oppression.
    • We will nationalize all the for-profit corporations so that the means of production can be owned by the people for the benefit of the people.
    • When children turn 5, they will join communes for rearing and education. They will live in dorms with their peers and be educated by professional commune teachers. Parents can, of course, visit with their children on the weekends and major holidays.
    • Personal wealth over $X million will be appropriated by the state.

Why are you concerned that she does not seem to have real presidential aspirations where you interested in voting for her?

LOL. No, not at all. I am not concerned so much as I am surprised. I have thought from the beginning that there were probably going to be four candidates with a real shot at winning the nomination for the Dems, with those being Joe Biden (Establishment bracket), Bernie Sanders (Socialist bracket), Kamala Harris (SJW/"Identity politics"/"Political correctness" bracket) and another candidate who will pop up later in the "Other" bracket. While moving as far to the left as she can go without the Democrats shouting her out of the race may help her with some segments of her base, it will destroy her viability in a potential general election contest.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see Kamala Harris win the nomination for the Democrats. What could be better in fact, aside from maybe Elizabeth Warren winning it. Or perhaps Corey Booker winning it. Or maybe Kirsten Gillibrand winning it. Or possibly Bill de Balsio winning it. Or Beto O'Rourke winning it. I think I could go on with this, but you get the idea.

So the Democrats and the media, including CNN are gunning for Bernie Sanders with a level of aggressiveness that is causing me to raise my eyelids in notice, as it were. They want this guy gone. The reason is obvious. They know that the Democrats will run as the American Socialist Party from now on if he wins the nomination. Bernie would change the DNA of the Republican party in his own way at least as much as Trump has changed the DNA of the Republican party (although some elected Republicans are still in denial about this). The Democrat intelligentsia thinks this is a horrendously bad idea and is taking active measures to make sure it does not happen.

With wide range of extreme and radical positions that Kamala is taking, along with her open channeling of the race issue to an unhealthy extent, if she starts to catch on, expect these same people to go after her too, just like they are with Bernie.

So, who can it be other than Joe? The DNC basically pre-selected the Democrat's presidential nominee in 2016 and now it increasingly appears that they are lining up to try to do it again.

And Michael Bloomberg is not running either.

Michael Bloomberg will not be running for president in 2020

"I believe I would defeat Donald Trump in a general election. But I am clear-eyed about the difficulty of winning the Democratic nomination in such a crowded field."

He can say what he wants, but I believe Bloomberg is also not running because Howard Schultz has already marked off his territory in the "Independent" lane, which means that Bloomberg would have to actually win the nomination as a Democrat and would not be able to switch over to independent status at the last minute, at least not with that having any real prospect of positive effect.

Why are you saying what happened in 2016?

There are no preselected candidates which is evident with the huge number of people running.

And just because you have an idea of who can and should win the nomination does not make it so, since when are you the expert on what the majority of democrats want in a president?

I am just an outside observer commenting on what I think is happening and what will help them or hurt them in the primaries and also in the general election. If you have different views, please do share them. It might sound weird to you guys, because I know this is not how you think, but it is OK to disagree and to encourage the expression of diverse opinions and perspectives.

The DNC put their thumb on the scale and pretty clearly pushed to have Hilary Clinton as the party nominee using whatever powers that they could muster. It will be a bit harder this time, with the reforms of the DNC led by Tom Perez (an establishment Democrat stooge if ever there was one) and also as you say because of the large number of competitors.

However, we have already seen the efforts by the Democrat left establishment media to undermine Bernie Sanders just in the first few months of this year. Feel free to say I am wrong, like some of you did about my early positive comments about Amy Klobuchar, which some of you called me names and insulted me for suggesting. But now many of you are all the sudden noticing that she is a very interesting and intriguing alternative to the other Democrat candidates this year.

I think some of you may well find yourselves coming around to make similar remarks to the ones I am offering here about the Democrat establishment forces trying to influence the outcome of this race - as they clearly did do in 2016 - before the nomination is decided in the summer of 2020.

So now you are concerned with the Democratic establishment forces and how they may be lining up to support Harris?

    am I tracking this right?

No, and since I have already addressed this "concern" nonsense of yours once today, it is starting to come across like you are intentionally being obtuse.

Also, I do not believe they are lining up to support Harris. They appear to me to be lining up to support Joe Biden.

I find all of this interesting. That the Democrat who run their party are absolute control freaks is not news to me and as long as it stays within the party, it is not a concern. On the national level, I find it very concerning. It is in fact extremely dangerous and bad for our country. But in the Democrat primaries, it is what it is.

Well, this is interesting. CNN did a focus group with Democrat voters and they rejected Joe Biden as their party's candidate for president. From the Hill:

    CNN focus group rejects Biden

The Democrats gathered by CNN, however, said they weren't interested in Biden. Some said they wanted a candidate who was further to the left. “I think we need a bold, strong leadership, and you’ll find that in the progressives," Democratic voter Carol Evans said.

“We had the standard-bearer for the kind of pragmatic centrist candidate in Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Donald Trump is now president. He is not your average political candidate, so we really need to try to think outside the box because, you know, it seems like the dude is made of rubber. Anything you throw at him just bounces off, there’s nothing that sticks," said focus group member Michael Milisits.

“I will be honest. He was riding the Obama wave and I thought he was a person that would unite the party, but to be honest, Sen. Biden really comes from kind of the good old boy politics of the past," Democrat Russel Banks said. “I don’t think Joe Biden represents that new thing that we need. We need a new economy, we need new politics and we need someone different," Democrat Owen Evans added.

While Biden leads in nearly every poll, there seems to be a lot of legitimate lethargy for his candidacy within the party. However, he could still win the nomination, as the only major establishment candidate he has running against him in the establishment bracket appears to be Terry MacAulliffe.

Coming of as intentionally obtuse, are you serious?

You acting like you actually care what democrats are doing because of the good good of the country is obtuse.

How about you comment on how the RNC is totally in the bag for Trump for once.

Well, this is a thread about the plethora of Democrats running for their party's nomination. So if you want to talk about how the Republican party has been changed by Trump, by all means you should go start a thread about that.

I care about the primary for the Democrats because it will produce their nominee and it will also profoundly shape the politics that the Democrats embrace and promote going forward. It does matter and I do care about it as a result.

So those 6 people should outweigh every poll taken?
