I wouldnt even give him a month. If he can play in the NBA for a week I'd hand him the title as the best Australian player ever.

The problem we have over here is that all of Australia's best athletes play the many different types of football we have in Australia. Over here, the guys that end up playing basketball are the lanky geeks that are to soft to play football.

Anyway, Bogut seems to be talking a fair bit of smack, but he isnt. He is spot on about evcerything he has said and the media is just over sensative about it.

And I say that as someone that honestly couldnt really care less about Bogut untill such time as he pull on a Rockets jersey.

The sad thing is that Australian B-ball needs him. Hopefully he'll get smacked around, dunked on and butt-checked by shaq just to teach him a lesson that the NBA is another world and he shouldn't come in talkin so much junk about other players - no matter how good or bad they are.

But we need him, all the buzz around the draft was the first time i had actually heard the word basketball mentioned on free-to-air (non-cable) TV in along time - the media just doesn't care about it-all we have is three codes of football, cricket, surfing and supercars crammed down our throat - without even stepping onto an NBA court he has made the country aware that as an Aussie you can be good at a non-australian sport and be successful enough to make more money in one year than a player from any of those other sports could make in their entire career.

I hope he is successful because basketball in Australia is going to fade otherwise, our league just doesn't have the marketing, audience or excitement to survive without proof that picking up a b-ball as a youngster can take you more places than cricket ever will.

Hell maybe one day we might even have a top 5 olympic team again.

To be honest though....how much press did his drafting REALLY recieve?

    Not much.

I dont really care because Im a Rocket fan and dont really give a stuff about the rest of the game. I think basketball in Australia got a VERY good run for a long time....but it just never took off like it was supposed to.

When we have so much world class sport.....people dont want to see a bunch of poor players in the NBL when they can switch on the TV and watch the NBA.

Nah, I reckon Shaq will shake his hand and take it easy on him. After all he did call out Kobe as a selfish player and said he should have deferred to Shaq anyway!

Did ostertag ever play in those bulls teams? If you are saying that Longley had anything to do with those championships you are wrong. Longley is one of the worst centers ever to start a nba game. He was pathetic, every time he tried a hook shot, i was afraid he would break the backboard

They actually tryed to trade Longley for a long handled broom stuck in a bucket of sand.....but the broom wanted more money then Longley was asking for. :D
