Yeah, and we bought that bill of goods too. How is "win now" when the Rockets only got out of the first round twice within the past 13 years? It was the Rockets FO/Marketing who made us believe all the crap in the past decade or so.

Yeah, when we first got T-Mac and Yao, we totally should have known that they would never win a ring together right then.

AB, Scola, Landry, Bud all good players that were aquired by Morey and played as rookies on the team. 3 second rounders and 1 late first rounder. You call them scrubs becuase you are jaded and bitter but all three would make the roster of any team in the league and none would be waived. All have proven they can play in this league. Show me another team or GM that has had more 2nd round success? Rockets had very little to show for their 2nd round picks under CD.

Let's see. Since our ring days, we've had:

    - Charles Barkley
    - Scottie Pippen
    - Steve Francis
    - Yao Ming
    - Tracy McGrady

    We have also aggressively pursued:

    - Amare Stoudamire
    - Chris Bosh
    - Carmelo Anthony
    - Deron Williams

It is not for lack of effort that we suck. It is because players do not see Houston as a good market and will not come here voluntarily and teams want what we do not have. If you can't see that Morey desperately wants a star and has tried everything to get one while maintaining the well-being of this franchise, well then you should probably find yourself another set of eyes.

Houston has the size, money, and the hip-hop culture that appeals to NBA players therefore it is a "good market." Ex-NBA players (some who have never even played for the Rockets) continue to live here, train here in the off-season.

Is there a litany of players who specifically say they don't like Houston and say it's not appealing? I can see a place like Salt Lake City as not being culturally conducive...

There are just simply cycles of good and bad fortune. There are those times when other franchises offer more at certain times and like you said, management has a lot to say.

It is not that players have said that Houston is bad, it is simply that young stars that we are looking for do not consider Houston as a top destination. To them, Houston is an after thought. They don't even consider it unless someone brings it to their attention. You can easily tell this during the interviews with Melo and Bosh. They always talk about about other places, never Houston unless prompted first.

I agree that Houston is a great city. It has a very culturally diverse population, low standard of living, and fairly good night scene. That is just my opinion however. From the eyes of a young player that did not grow up in Houston or have not grown up in Houston, this is what they see:

    - Heavily polluted
    - Poor endorsement market
    - Poor party scene in comparison to places like LA, NY, Miami
    - No beaches
    - Hot and humid
    - No stars to help win a ring

So let me ask you, in the eyes of a young, ambitious, egotistical NBA star like Melo or Chris Paul, what incentive do they have to come here? Let's be honest here; not much in their eyes. As for Utah not being a great market or as culturally conducive, I agree with you. Why do you think Boozer left and DWill wanted out? That only serves to prove my point.

A lot of ex-NBA players or older NBA players have or keep real estate in Houston, because it is cheap and typically a good investment. For young players who are more interested in living it up in life, Houston is simply not a place of interest for them.
