You said Yao should average 4-5 assists a game if his teammates hit wide open 3's. I have to question whether you watch games if that's what you actually think. Simple logic would indicate what you're saying is totally improbable. Yao gets 1.6 assists a game right now. So, you're saying he should average 2.4-3.4 more assists on made 3-pointers. He currently averages 1 assist on made 3-pointers per game. So, if your expectation is completely unrealistic and his teammates should be shooting 100% on their 3-point attempts from his passes, that means they're getting 3.4-4.4 3-point attempts a game. Which means, consequentially, that currently they are shooting 1 for 3.4-4.4 per game off his passes, or 22.7%-29.4%. Again, that's assuming you think they should be shooting 100%. If you think they should be shooting, say, 55% off his passes (still unrealistic, imo), then that means you think they're getting 6.2-8 3-point attempts a game off Yao's passes. Which means they are currently shooting 1 for 6.2-8 per game, or 12.5%-16.1%.

If you're actually watching the games, there's no way in hell you'd think that Yao's teammates are shooting sub-20% from the 3-point line off his passes. Again, overall the Rockets shoot 39% on 3s -- 5th in the league. You can't seriously think their shooting suddenly turns to crap when they get wide open shots off Yao's passes.

    Not you.

You said he was a GREAT PASSER.

So far the results are closer to average.

Average and above average do not equal GREAT.

Take out the natural biases due to this being a Rockets forum with a large number of Chinese members and I think the true results of the poll are closer to below average.

Regardless, nothing in the poll indicates that people think Yao is a GREAT PASSER, which is what the OP said multiple times in other polls. According to him, Yao is right up there with Pau Gasol and Kevin Garnett in terms of passing ability.

What is the definition of "great"? I'd say he'd have to be among the top 5 at his position to be considered great. Yao is average at best compared to his position and awful compared to all players.

Well not you. The results indicate he is an average passer. Take away the big Y.O.F vote of which I believe you are, and he is indeed an average passer.

All I said was he was above average, You obviously don't know how to read then. Go look at my first post.

Take out the natural biases? I see these Yao usernames and they voted Average. You are clueless my friend.

I'll settle this. Here was the exchange that brought on this thread:

Technically, BrooksBall was right. You said 90% of the board would agree with you that Yao was a great passer. BrooksBall disagreed, and asked you to make a thread to show it. The results are in. Over half the board thinks Yao is either average or below average.

Right.....I am sure he meant to say people probably think he is more of a below average passer. Obviously he doesn't know what he is saying, because at least they say he is average.

If that's what he meant to say, then he would have said it. All he said was you need to post a poll to show that most of the board thinks Yao is a really good passer. I posted his words above.

You accepted the challenge, and it turns out you were wrong about what the board thinks. But, hey, it doesn't prove that Yao is a bad passer. Maybe he's as great as you say he is, and we're all just blind to it.

He's avg at best, but closer to below than above. Just by simple logic, he has 2 to's per 1 asst. So for 2 asst that's 4to's. I have a bio-chem degree, so I'm no math major, but that doesn't equate to even avg in basic terms.

This thread was in response to me challenging what you said EARLIER, not what you wrote in the OP. You actually lowered your opinion of his passing abilities in the OP. I wonder why?

Don't believe me? Here are his own words from BEFORE he created this thread:

    Link: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=4108608#post4108608

In this next one, he's referring to Camby who was a PG during his youth and has one of the best A/TO of all big men in the game, a guy who has put up around 10 assists in a game several times during his career.

    Link: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?p=4108594#post4108594

This next one is from this thread. According to him, Yao is among the best passing big men in the game, ahead of Gasol and Camby, among others.

This one here is just a gem, posted for pure entertainment. :D

Are people here really comparing him to guards? You cannot take the A/TO ratio as evidence. Even Hakeem's A/TO ratio was not that hot for most of his career; in fact, turnovers were his one foil throughout his career, although not as crippling as say Shaq's FT%, and people sure shut up about it once he got the first championship, but still, point is, you compare Yao to the other centers in the league, not the other "players". Who actually is in this discussion?

Off the top of my head:

    "Above average"
    Duncan, Brad Miller

    The rest:
Dwight Howard, Shaq, Kaman, Kendrick Perkins, Ilgauskas, Bynum, Marc Gasol, Al Jefferson, Okur, Oden, Przybilla, Dampier, Nene, Biedrins

We all know Yao ain't in the top five in passing on this Rockets team, but that has no bearing whatsoever when you put in the company of the above names. I think it's ludicrous to say he is below average.

How many threads have you made this month???
    <br>
Yao is an average passer at best. Stop being that much of a homer, its ok to be realistic once in a while too

Where did he say that? Post the quote.

For example, here's what you actually said:

You said 90% of the board would agree with you on how "great" Yao is as a passer. Well, a whopping 4% of the board agreed that Yao is "one of the best". Somewhere along the line, I guess you morphed your position from "Yao is one of the best" to "Yao is better than below average".

Ok, fine. 90% of the board agrees with you that Yao is better than below average. But we know that was not the initial claim.

Here's my question: you don't seriously think that Yao is a better passer than Pau Gasol, do you?

    Tmacfan0115,

An idea for your next thread (w/ poll):

How long before I get demoted to rookie for creating a thread about every idea that pops into my head?

Option 1: Less than a week
Option 2: Less than a month
Option 3: Never, all of my ideas are crucial and must be shared to enlighten this forum
