Watched a few movies on my trip to London:

Toy Story 3 - 9/10. Expected to be funny and it delivered. Do they ever not? Pixar continues to amaze.

Get Him to the Greek - 9/10. I thought it was really funny. Lots of little lines here and there that just cracked me up and the overall situation.

The Last Airbender - 4/10. I had read all the reviews but being a fan of the cartoon I still wanted to see how bad it really was. While not throw-up horrible, everything from the acting to the action was pretty bad. You know how watching David Carradine fight back in the old Kung Fu show seemed like it was slow motion? That's how the fight sequences were here. Just horribly directed.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: 6/10
As a non-reader/fan of the books, I was a bit lost on what was happening, and some parts were confusing (like was that Harry's wedding?!). Scenery was beautiful, and the kids' acting has improved to the point where it was enough to pull off a drama centered around them (not as much action in this one).

    Let Me In: 7.5/10
Surprisingly dark, and at times outright creepy (in an unconventional way). Liked it better than the Swedish Let the Right One In. Despite having the same key scenes and the same plot line, Let Me In is much darker in tone. For those that have already seen Let the Right One In and are deciding on whether to catch Let Me In, these were the key differences for me:

    Let the Right One In
More like an innocent friendship/love story
    Scenery more beautiful
Cinematography is much brighter, cleaner look.

    Let Me In
More complex relationships between boy and vamp, vamp and old man
More suspense and a sense of danger for boy protagonist
Look is more gritty, and there is more violence
Does a better job of explaining the motivations for the vamp's actions due to her circumstances, and to a lesser extent, the choices the boy has to make are more difficult to make

My only gripe with Let Me In is I would've loved a longer, drawn out revenge process 'Sympathy for Mr Vengeance' style. That would be more satisfying, but I guess that's not what the movie is about.

I've read a few reviews of fans of the original not liking the remake, and given the differences, I think many opinions will be split. Ppl will prefer one of them over the other, but that's ok. Better than a shot for shot remake imo.

    The Tourist. 3/10.

Surprised to find out Angelina Jolie was 35 after the movie, she looks like someone close to 50 who has had way too much work done to her face.

I wasn't surprised the movie went through 3 different directors and numerous role changes after the movie, it had a major identity crisis. Dialogue, dark humor and action don't suit the pace of the movie which fluctuates.

It will bomb in the US but do well overseas because it has a certain Je ne sais quoi from the locations.

    Temple Grandin 9.5/10

Really terrific movie. It's no surprise that Claire Danes and Julia Ormond won emmy's for their performances. A really solid movie.

    Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale

Not scary. Not gory. Pretty funny with a very dark theme. It was good. Very good if you appreciate foreign flicks. 7/10

It was Fleur Delacour(The beautiful girl that represents Beauxbatons in the Tri-Wizard tournament in the Goblet of Fire) and Bill Weasley's(Ron's oldest brother) wedding.

    Chaser 8/10

Pretty good Korean thriller, I think it's based on a real life serial killing. Really dark, intense, a few plot holes, but otherwise very entertaining.

    Memento 8/10

Only thing bad is I saw Shutter Island before this... and I'm pretty sure Shutter Island was a complete rip off this movie

But overall great movie, kept me more and more interested, it's like one of those books you cant put down

    Black Swan 9.5/10
I consider this a classical masterpiece even though it falls somewhere between Flashdance and Carrie.
For me this was a 1:48 minute panic attack. Natalie Portman is "perfect".

That was confusing. I remember Ron's sister asking Harry "should we have the wedding?" or something to that effect, and the next minute he runs off from the wedding w/o taking her along. I thought he just got married and then dumped her after that to flirt with his wife's brother's GF

    Inception 6/10

Just didn't find it very interesting. Didn't like the cast very much. It never seemed very suspenseful to me. Similar movies I liked better would be "Dark City" and "The Matrix".

I finally sat through the whole movie of THE LAST AIRBENDER

It was bad. . . it was REALLY BAD

I don't think you can force a whole season into 1 movie
esp if it is only 90 minutes

The Fail started from the beginning.
I don't think M Night is the best director for this movie
    much less writer

The Selection of the actors for the Characters was atrocious
The Renaming of the main character was crappy too.
Hard to take Aasif Mandvi as a serious bad guy
[he is known as the Funny Indian guy on the Daily Show]

    Bad Bad Bad
Add the weight of expectations . . and BOOM it is a disaster
I hear they will make a part II

    3 out of 10

Just saw the Coen brothers' True Grit and it was fantastic. Definitely a 9, in my opinion. If Bridges hadn't won an Oscar last year, I'd bet money on him taking it for this performance. It you like westerns the least little bit (I'm a big fan), you will love this film. If you don't, you will still love this flick. See it!

    Unforgiven - 7/10

I watched this movie because so many in the True Grit thread raved about Unforgiven being the best western ever. I was pretty disappointed in it to be honest. A lot of the acting felt really forced to me. Maybe it's just dated. I don't think it was anywhere near as good as Tombstone.

    Winter's Bone 10/10
    - The cinematography is gorgeous, a real art on display...
    - The original score is awesome, some true blue grass music...
    - The performance by the Lead girl, outstanding...
