I did the same thing over the weekend. I'd just never gotten around to seeing the original and figured if I was going to watch the remake at some point I better get on it. Its a wonderful piece of atmospheric filmmaking, almost Kubrick like in it's execution and detachment.
I just saw The African Queen (1951) for the first time. Good lord is it horrible. One star. Basically, the whole thing is like a bad episode of the A-Team TV show, but with worse dialogue, worse special effects, worse music, and no Mr. T. What in heck's name is the fuss about that movie?
Animal Kingdom (2010) 8.5/10 Excellent gritty crime thriller from Australia. Set in the 1980s, it deals with a sociopath crime-family and a detective enlisting the help of someone on the inside to take them down. Great acting all around. Buried (2010) 8.5/10 Awesome 90 min thriller. Like in Kill Bill, Ryan Reynolds is US contractor in Iraq buried alive inside a coffin who has to escape fast otherwise the oxygen runs out. The camera work is phenomenal and it makes the audience feel claustrophobic just watching the movie. Recommend.
13 Tzameti Didn't just see it, but it's is absolutely worth a watch....especially if you don't know the plot. My suggestion: go into it blind. You'll thank me later. I will say that the minimalistic approach (something I usually detest) to such a disturbing story was gripping. 7.5/10
i just saw african queen for the first time in years. man that is a great movie (you forget sometimes) easy 10 out of 10
I've heard that the love-story is completely unbelievable, the acting: cheesy, many scenes that should have simply been shot on location (they ARE just floating on a boat after all) were shot in an indoor, Olympic-sized pool...is this movie REALLY that good? I also heard that Hepburn's character is one of the least likable all-time in cinema. Supposedly she starts nearly every sentence in the film with, "Excuse me, Mr. Allnut..." while he is clearly the only other person on the boat. Also, I've been told that the entire plot (her master plan) is ridiculously laughable.
Get Him To The Greek 6/10 I had high hopes since Forgetting Sarah Marshall is one of my favorite flicks of recent years. This one didn't come anywhere close to the greatness of it though. Some funny parts and worth a watch, but I don't see it being something I'll ever be interested in watching again.
Movies I am looking forward to: Black Swan The Fighter 127 Hours The Way Back can't wait to see these movies!
Yes. I have been looking forward to Black Swan for awhile. And it's a plus that Mila Kunis is along side Natalie Portman
Meet the Deedles! - loved it, loved it loved it loved it. 8 stars out of 6, just vintage paul walker!
I Spit on Your Grave - decent attempt at remaking it but closer to modern day torture p*rn than the original, decent but unnecessary remake. C- Let me In - another unnecessary remake but it's actually a very solid film that captures the central themes of the original. Chole Mortiz is just outstanding. B
Hey Grendal u seen Buried yet? I'm gonna catch this one today, I love that type of filmmaking and how the hell did he managed to shoot the whole movie in a freaking box?? Man these directors from Spain are making some bold stylish films...
Haven't man, somehow I've gotten behind on movies, have Buried, Wall Street sequal and The Town still on my to watch list.
Wrong forum. Tell No One (2006) 8/10 Good French thriller, similar to the Fugitive. If you ignore some plot holes, it makes for a great movie.
