Ip Man (8/10) - Thought it was going to be a movie about a computer networking dude, but it turned into an amazing martial arts flick. It's the life story of Bruce Lee's master, and a must for anyone who likes this genre. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3qhPDEOYbx4?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3qhPDEOYbx4?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
El Secreto De Sus Ojos [The Secret In Their Eyes] (2009) 9/10 Gorgeous movie from Argentina that's earned several accolades. Told in a flashback of a terrible crime in Juan PerĂ³n's Argentina in the early 70s, a prosecutor reexamines the case which changed his life after 25 years. It's deliberately paced, and we slowly learn what happened and whether justice can be served. Also, 2 scenes about a soccer match and one inside an elevator are truly riveting.
Drag Me to Hell - 9.5/10 Although I don't watch many scary movies this one delivered and was just an awesome movie throughout. The old hag freaked me out hardcore a couple of times and there were some very creepy/scary moments. Very well paced and no cheap ending either.
The Atheism Tapes - 8.5/10 Nothing really new or earth-shattering, but it's an entertaining collection of interviews with some great contemporary philosophers. Arthur Miller was especially moving. It can be a bit tedious at times with redundant arguments but it was very interesting and gave me a couple new perspectives.
So I JUST got around to watching Zombieland last night. It automatically gets a free pass into one of my top 5 favorite movies all time. I'm not a huge Emma Stone fan, but holy cow. She was smokin' in that movie. Obligatory picture: Spoiler <a href="http://media.photobucket.com/image/emma stone zombieland/Dragonrage_HR2/emma-stone-zombieland-2.jpg?o=1" target="_blank"><img src="http://i783.photobucket.com/albums/yy119/Dragonrage_HR2/emma-stone-zombieland-2.jpg" border="0"></a> Something about girls with guns just gets me. In movies, of course. In real life, not so much. This is all old news, I know.
Rec 2. Wanted to watch the first one but none of the stores had it in so I went ahead and saw 2. Pretty good horror flick. If the first one is really that much better than 2 (as i've heard), i can't wait to see it. 8/10.
2 is supposed to be continuation of the first one, haven't had a chance to see it yet but the first is very impressive.
I got NetFlix for a month and have been streaming movies at least once a day.... you'll have to excuse the selection, I share my remote with a family, tis life. The following videos are all available for instant streaming on netflix which you could just do the free 2 week trial and watch (just make sure you cancel before the last day... that's why I have a month, didn't cancel in time). Happy Accidents was good enough (7.9/10). It has Marisa Tomei in it and is about a man that supposedly comes from the future to hook up with Marisa. Timer is also some what of a imaginative chick flick and not bad considering I hadn't heard of it before. The Firefly series was pretty awesome. I enjoyed watching the 9 or so episodes in existence and then the movie accompaniment "Serenity". Definitely worth a look if you like Joss Whedon. The Unbearable Lightness of Being had Daniel Day-Lewis in it and was good to watch... that actor has range and he is pure great.. it's a bit of an older movie and is not very action packed but if you follow Philip Kaufman (think Indiana Jones writer) it's worth it. G.I. Jane Great film. Well worth it. Hard to get better than Ridley Scott. Watched Underworld: Rise of the Lycans and liked it enough that I actually had to rent Underworld Evolution and the original Underworld... so watch out if you stream rise of the lycans, cause it's the last in a series.
I thought I was the only one. Its really hard to see tons of great actors in a badly written movie. Easy Rider- Everybody was telling me that this is a great movie and started watching it on the Reelz channel now and don't know why this is a considered a great movie. Kinda of boring to me. Maybe it will pick up.
Brian Posehn on Cop Out- "I took a nap at the Arclight Cinema but that Bruce Willis movie wouldn't shut the f*** up." The Expendables-7/10 Not the greatest movie but if your looking for mindless action in the same retrospect of 80's B action flicks can't go wrong with it.
