Iron Man 2 It was good, but not great. It felt more like Iron Man 1.5 than a true sequel. And maybe that's because I've been spoiled by Dark Knight...but in that, Nolan raised the bar from Batman Begins and created a sequel that was unique to the first movie but never straying from those things that made it a success. I don't think Iron Man did that...to me it stayed safe and held to the conventions of the first film. That's not a bad thing but it certainly doesn't make it anything special. 7/10
I watched The Secret of Roan Inish with my daughters. I give it five stars. It's a bit slow, but retained my daughters' attention the whole time and was never boring. I love anything to do with the ocean, though, and the scenery was spectacular. Based on a Irish legend.
Have you ever seen Ryan's Daughter? A David Lean film that was a surprising flop when it came out, it is simply beautiful to look at, winning an Oscar for best cinematography. While not one of Lean's best films, there is a lot to like about it. The screenplay is by Robert Bolt, who wrote Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago, and the score is by Maurice Jarre, who did the scores for the same two Lean classics. The acting job by Bob Mitchum was Oscar worthy, in my opinion, and the superb cast (John Mills, Trevor Howard, Sarah Miles) all give excellent performances. Not a good film to see with young daughters, however. If you love "anything with the ocean" and spectacular scenery, you have to see this. Rated R.
Iron Man 2 - 7/10 Good, but not as good as first, hopefully the third one will have a better plot... Scarlett J is BEAUTIFUL
Where the Wild Things Are-6.5/10. I wasn't expecting much considering how simple the children's story is, but it just wasn't very good. The poster on the previous page summed it up nicely
Vertigo (85%) - Very good performances by James Stewart and Kim Novak, and I love the fact that it's set in my favorite city, San Francisco. I thought the transformation of Stewart's character was handled well and kept the movie interesting throughout. The only drawback is the ending was fairly predictable about 2/3 of the way through the movie. Definitely has me excited to watch more classics...Hitchcock in particular.
I saw 'The Moon' on Netflix (FYI, it's available for streaming). I would give it 8.5/10. The movie was a bit slow but it was very good.
If you mean "Moon" with Sam Rockwell, I agree. That movie was great and got me thinking. It was a damn shame Rockwell wasn't even nominated for an Oscar for that role. On another note, I'm late on this, but I just watched 12 Monkeys on Netflix. I'd give it a strong 8/10. I can see how it may have influenced The Jacket, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and even a little Carlito's Way. Though I'm not sure if the last one came out first.
I was not quite as high on it as other folx. I would say 6.5/10. It kept me interested but not much else. FARGO - Another movie alot of people like that I found a bit wanting. 6/10 - I guess I just didn't get it. Rocket River
At the risk of sounding gay I have to mention "A Very Long Engagement" with Audrey Tautou, she was "Amelie". I will not rate the movie but I will say it is one of the best movies I've seen in the past couple years.
