After all of the horrible reviews, I was not about to go and spend ten bucks on a ticket when it came out, but I definitely was interested in seeing 2012 when it came out on DVD. Have to say, it was corny and silly, but it was not nearly as horrible as I had been led to believe. It was just a fun 'doomsday, end-of-the-world, family adventure flick', featuring some goofily improbable writing, but some amazingly spectacular special effects. I would give it a 7/10 Definitely worth a watch on DVD if you have not seen it, but don't expect it to be deeply profound. Just more of a roller-coaster than anything else. We have already seen what happens when something like that becomes too *grim*, such as in 'Knowing', which was really not very good.
Cool deal, I really enjoyed it, have watched it twice actually, be sure to check out the short it's pretty cool. I need to rewatch the GL one, first viewing was a long while ago.
Quarantine - 7/10 Spoiler Aside from the obvious "blair witch" comparison, I did enjoy this one more than I thought I would. Somewhat believable, disturbing, and frightening at times, if a bit hard on the eyes. The Descent - 4/10 Spoiler I guess I thought this was something else, because nothing in it was like I thought it would be, and it just get worse and worse (and worse) as the movie goes on. I swear, some of these look like they were backed by unions to keep the gore effects people working... oh, and bad script writers too.
City of God - 9/10 I'm going to nitpick and say the 1st half ran slightly long and the last segment of the movie felt rushed. If they expounded a bit more on the turf war I'd give it a 10/10.
Paranormal Activity -- 9/10 I had to give an extra point or two due to the low-budget nature of the movie.
Wow I feel the total opposite. The Descent is one of the best horror movies I've seen. And Quarantine pretty much sucked outside the last scene; it was based on REC, which is a little better I guess, and has gotten much better reviews.
Extract - 7/10 - I give it a slightly above average for Judge's ability to showcase the hilariousness of the subtleties of life. The concept is really great. Unfortunately, the plot really dies about half-way through and then trudges along to a logical-conclusion ending. There is so much potential for twists and turns along the way, but nothing ever really happens. Kristen Wiig is devastatingly underutilized (as is David Koechner). Ben Affleck is miscast as well. Too bad...
Did anybody enjoy Where The Wild Things are as much as I did and should have been nominated for something at the Oscars??? Definitely the best picture of 2009...
dude, I love the book and that movie blew chunks. If anything how about an award for "getting my hopes up, then failing".
Hurt Locker : 9 / 10 Awesome movie, close to being an epic The Green Lantern : 8.5 / 10 (animated) Movie was good, but the added episodes in the extras made it even better! Ponyo : 8 / 10 (animated) Another great from this director. Watched with my nephews, they enjoyed it as did I...... really a movie for all ages.
