Sunshine Cleaning starring Amy Adams. A touching, yet intricate story. Good job by Amy Adams. She deserves some recognition. Great work. 9/10 .
Saw Up in the Air. Somewhat depressing, but well put together. I thought Clooney seemed miscast in the role, though my wife completely disagrees. 8/10.
I caught this on HBO one night and I couldn't even make it halfway through. Really disappointing for a Guy Ritchie flick.
You know I think that Clooney was perfect as himself and as the business guy who doesn't give a crap, yadda yadda yadda... but he did seem somewhat out of place in the whole latter part of the film that had more interactions with his estranged family. I thought it was just really well done the way they presented everything, soundtrack was great too, I honestly think I liked Up in the Air more than any other of the Best Picture Noms.
i was working the graveyard shift last week, so that afforded me some movie watchin' time. lions for lambs - 6.5/10 redbelt - 9/10 blow (second time through) - 7/10 surrogates - 7/10 the good shepherd - 6.5/10 the first and the last may have been swayed by my expectations, which were nil. redbelt is classic mamet and it's a crime more people haven't heard of it, much less seen it. chiwetel ejiofor is always great.
District 9 - 6/10 - I thought it was original enough, I suppose. Hard to overcome all the plot holes, though.
Brothers - 6/10 It was a pretty decent movie up until the incredibly weak ending. The Blind Side - 7.5/10 Your classic feel good movie. A good performance from Sandra Bullock. About what I expected. Moon -7/10 It was well done. I thought it would suck me in a little more given all of the great reviews I had read, but it's certainly worth a watch. The soundtrack is superb and by Clint Mansell, who also did the soundtrack for Requiem For a Dream. The Invention Of Lying - 5.5/10 The first half hour of this movie is great. I laughed quite a bit early on. Unfortunately after that it just starts getting worse and worse.
I'm sure I could find a flaw if I tried, but I don't think a high rating denotes a flawless masterpiece or that it was the greatest movie ever made. My checklist goes something more like this: * Artistically/philosophically compelling? check * Good craftsmanship? check * Entertaining? check * Can't sleep or have sex because you're thinking about the movie? check It doesn't happen often, so I have to give them lots of love when it does happen.
Fair enough. I need to rewatch District 9, perhaps I missed a few things because I do remember being kind of annoyed with the camera work at the beginning, I was sitting way too close to the screen and it was making me sick.
-1 indie cred for referencing Clint Mansell after I posted it on the last page. I think the movie got a lil sloppy at the end, or maybe I missed a key moment of the film. I really wanted to know why the the first clone was dying...do they only have a shelf life of 3 years? and the ending was fairly loose. but overall I really like the movie, a lot.
Aronofsky probably won't even pork his date unless Mansell is standing by the bed with a freaking violin... that dude is married to his music.
Spoiler Yes, the clones were only made to last 3 years hences the cremation/transport pods. There was a section where the older clone view video logs of previous clones and their degrading states.
Just saw the movie Pursuit of Happyness with Will Smith and his son. I had been wanting to see it for some time but just got it in my hands today. Wow, all I can say is that I should have seen it earlier. This was a great movie, extremly inspiring. I usually don't cry (to be honest I think I haven't cried since I was 8 or so), but that movie brought up a couple of crocodile tears in my eyes. 10/10, zero flaws.
