Edge of Darkness: 8/10 ... Mel Gibson was very good and it was shot well (very classic feel, shades of Hitchcock) and had an intriguing story. I felt like they didn't know how to end it, and some part were a bit far-fetched. Spoiler For example, when the girl that worked with his daughter met him on the side of the road in his car, then she gets out after handing him the discs and somehow they knew precisely the moment she would step out of the car and time it perfectly to hit her. Also, Mel stumbling around with the handgun while suffering the effects of the radiation and having the alertness and accuracy to kill his daughter's murderer and the CEO was a little silly. The Hurt Locker: 9/10 ... very gripping, and one of the most realistic feeling movies I've ever seen. To think that there are troops who feel that way brings it more to life.
The Hangover - 9/10 (Yes...I'm very late to the party on this one. I laughed out loud multiple times.)
Couples Retreat - 6/10 I wasn't expecting much out of it going in.. Up in the Air - 7/10 It kind of dragged on at the end. Let The Right One In - 8/10 (Sweedish movie)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who has seen this. I was skeptical when my wife wanted to go see a Swedish vampire movie, but I thought it was excellent (and not the stereotypical vampire movie). Last one I saw: Lovely Bones - 3/10. Peter Jackson just messed this one all up. Not very good and all the cool special effects were given away in the trailers. I went in with high expectations and wanted to leave halfway through.
You know the more I think about this movie the more I like it. It's a 9/10 at the very least and probably the third best movie I've seen all year after District 9 and Up in the Air. The only semi-problem I had with the movie was Brad Pitt and his character/accent. I don't think I read many reviews for it, so the movie was actually not what I was expecting at all, and I'd be surprised if I was the only one. Spoiler Honestly, all I was expecting to see was the "basterds" mutilating Nazis with some some Tarantino-esque dialogue thrown in...yet that was barely even touched on in the movie. The best scenes were those long conversations where the tension builds (ie, the opening scene, the restaurant scene with the girl and Goebells, the pub scene with the suspicious Nazi, etc.). The execution of those scenes were flawless!
maybe i missed something with the watchmen. I liked the way it was done, i loved certain aspects of it but at the end i just felt like it was a little flat.
Whiteout - D It's sad that the best part of the movie is below, <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/H5e2xue-nB0&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/H5e2xue-nB0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object> the rest is just a nothing but bad cliche after cliche. The Invention of Lying - C+ Was letdown it wasn't better than it was considering the cast and Gervais.
just saw Edge of Darkness...it was bad ass, definitely alot more action/gore than i anticipated. Was entertained throughout
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle - 7.5/10 - Deceptively entertaining. Crazy casting. Lot's of tongue-in-cheek referencing.
To some degree i can agree but this wasn't an action vampire movie. Its a drama. I think that's what I liked about it. It was an original concept and told more from a child's point of view. there were some questions left unanswered but that just adds to the intrigue of the movie. Also I hear there will be a hollywood remake.....which from past experiences suck. BTW rent 'Old boy' if you haven't already seen it.
