I watched Horizon last night . . . again really surprised how much I enjoyed it. This one's reputation is going to improve with age, I just hope they don't give up on Costner before he gets to the final installment. Really looking forward to Part 2. Definitely a 9+ out of 10
Oppenheimer... great acting not a great movie -- it's good but I was expecting something epic. 7.4/ 10
Not a movie but watched that new Penguin show starring Tony Soprano. Pretty entertaining but he walks with a limp now.
Watched The Menu late last night on Amazon Prime. I had heard about it but never saw it. Very interesting movie. As someone who’s been fans of cooking shows like the original Iron Chef raises a lot of interesting points about where haute cuisine and class. Super fancy food has always been a status symbol and reserved for the most wealthy. What’s interesting with a lot of the trend in farm to table sustainable food is that what was once poor people’s food is now catered to the extremely wealthy. For those who haven’t seen the movie they deal with that very subject. I hadn’t seen too much of Anya Taylor Joy before since I haven’t seen Queen’s Gambit or Furiosa yet but really impressed. She’s obviously very beautiful with a very captivating face and figure but she can really act. Also while watching the movie because I had been teaching a Judo class and was tied up with some other stuff earlier in the evening I hadn’t eaten dinner so I was eating a microwaved chimichanga and flaming hot Cheetos while watching. That really seems fitting given the movie is a social commentary of high end cuisine and class.
Saw the new Beetlejuice. 5.75/10. Nothing really new or exciting about it. Some nice Tim Burton set pieces. Good actors that didn't seem to rise above the material. Michael Keaton was really good in this, but his character seemed uninspired and lacking in freshness. Monica Bellucci was good but not really on screen enough to matter. At the same time it wasn't horrible. The actors were all good enough to be competent. There were some amusing lines and clever e
We haven't even finished it, it's a massive disappointment. Apartment 7A is nothing you won't expect, but it's very (very by Julia Garner and the Old Creep Couple) well acted and filmed.
Wouldn’t bother finishing it. It doesn’t improve. Good to know on 7a. In the genre, Midnight Mass is closer to the feel of the King book (first one I read in 6th grade!) than this waste of time.
Watched a movie called Lamb. It's made primarily by an Iceland group. The movie takes its time which can be a good thing. It's kind of unsettling as it intends to be. I don't want to spoiler anything so the less said about it the better. I really liked the movie. 9/10
Joker: Folie à Deux (2024) Went in with low expectation, and it pretty much was that. A sequel that didn't really need to exist. Movie was at least competently shot but it's really a skip Grade: C-
Haha I just rewatched it over the last two weeks. Finished it this past weekend. I still see things that I missed or that I understand better. Amazing show. Watches it in full 7/8 times. Unpopular opinion. Season 8 not nearly as bad as I and most once thought. While it could have been different, I think most people just wanted to see another outcome. I love it all.
My Old Ass Sentimental, but just quirky and brave enough to earn some cred. 8.03 / 10.00 Seriously, good payoff with Aubrey Plaza near the end of the movie, (but sorry, not in the @Jontro sense of good payoff).
"X" 8.4/10. Watched it on Max. It's a very good slasher film. If Megan Fox would have been the lead I would have given it a 20 out of 10. In Houston, an independent XXX director wants to film his own movie with the upstart of VCRs. They end up in the wrong side of the boonies for their filming location. I did have a come to Mary Magdalene moment. What happens to us guys and women that enjoy sex when we hit our 60s? We can't all win 6 superbowl rings and bang NFL cheerleaders. Can't wait to watch the sequel to this film Maxxxine.
I haven't seen it so I can't review it but I'm talking about "Red One". From watching the trailer, I would not see this film because I thought the trailer looked awful and didn't do advertising the film any justice. I just didn't know what I was looking at in the trailer. It looked a mess. But, checking over at "Rotten Tomatoes", the critics panned this film to a rating of 32% but the Popcornmeter (audience) gives it a rating of 90%. The box office started out really disappointing compared to the budget for the film. I'm wondering if it doesn't pick up given word of mouth? Has anyone seen this film and can give a review? The Rock didn't really sell me on this in the trailer but JK Simmons as a ripped Santa seems kind of hilarious. Just wondering if anyone has seen it and can review it?
