Big Trouble in Lil China. The greatest movie with Kurt Russel. Putting Kurt Russel, Chinatown, and Lo Pan made this movie awesome. If anybody hasn't seen this movie, this should make you want to watch it.
You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this? Really a classic comedy/action movie with no equal. I am begging they NEVER remake it because that would kill it for me.
Revolutionary Road - 8/10 I could really relate to this movie. That's why I don't want to be a housewife...I'll just go crazy. Twilight - 9/10 I FINALLY watched this after hearing so many people talk about this. Aw, I really liked this movie. I HARDLY watch romance movies but this is a movie I can watch over and over again. I couldn't understand what the fuss was about Robert Pattinson and now I get it. He was hot in that movie. I need to read the book series.
Coraline - 8.5 / 10 great visuals and storytelling. The Thing - 9 / 10 I saw this on HBO the other day when I couldnt sleep, and I was amazed by it! Simple yet stellar!
I finally got around to watching Step Brothers....... what a waste of time. That movie was horrible! 3/10
I Love You Man - 7.5/10 District9 (saw it today) - 9/10 Very impressed. Lakeview Terrace- 8.5/10 This significantly better than I expected.
Pandorum Saw the sneak preview tonight. It was pretty decent. Better than the trailers suggest. I think a good comparison is to Event Horizon. It has a nice, creepy atmosphere. The set designs and effects are good, decent performances from the cast. It has some disturbing moments and some blood and gore. Definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat. But at the same time it does have flaws. There's a few plot holes, nothing terribly major, but the movie would have been better had certain things been explained more. By the end I kind of felt it was starting to drag just a little. And it wasn't particularly scary; a few tense moments maybe but fairly predictable. The mutated, zombie-esque monsters were done pretty well (and I never got a Descent vibe from watching it like I thought I would), but I think the movie would have been better had they gone in a different direction...perhaps staying more faithful to the concept of "pandorum" in regards to the monsters instead of just making them zombies. Won't elaborate on that so as not to spoil it. It was a good sci-fi though. Would watch it again, but probably wouldn't buy it. And cheers to the guy who thought himself so proud by pointing out a flaw in the movie based on the laws of science. Yeah, umm, the movie is a sci-fi horror, the whole damn thing is pretty unrealistic. So who cares. 6/10
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure - I caught this on cable last night. It was a decent, somewhat formulaic comedy that had some clever scenes and dialogue. Pretty amazing to see such a young Keanu Reeves acting like a stoner-type high school kid. 7/10
Observe and Report - 28% This movie sucked. And I'm usually a bigger Seth Rogen fan than most people, but this movie just flat out sucked. There were a few clever lines here and there, but I just never gave a **** about any of the characters. His "buddy" was so stupid sounding it was painful. The storyline had potential, but overall I just thought it was a terrible movie.
Took my 3.5 yr old daughter and her classmate to see Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs this morning...I love the 1030am discount movies for the kids. I thought it was great...lots of adult tongue in cheek humor. I recommend it. I'd give it an 8 outta 10.
due to the Roman Polanski arrest I remembered there was a documentary awhile back (independent film) called Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired 88% on RottenTomatoes It was interesting to see how much suffering he experienced in his life, not that what he did wasn't wrong. But I see the reasoning of why he fled the country, the judge was absolutely nuts. I would recommend it. The guy has lived 3 lives over. Parents killed in concentration camps during the holocaust, lived by himself, slowly grew as a director after ending up in London with a friend. Married a gorgeous (Sharon Tate) actress. She was murdered by the Manson family. Had sex with a 13 year old girl during a photo shoot. Pretty crazy life. Academy award winner-- China Town, RoseMary's Baby, The Pianist To name a few great movies.
I almost forgot that I saw this... Extract (70%) - My gf and I are both big Jason Bateman fans ever since Arrested Development, and when the free screening of Zombieland was full, we decided to see this instead. It wasn't great, and lacked any true laugh out loud moments, but I thought it was enjoyable throughout. Good enough for a passing grade for me...but just enough. Side note: Mila Kunis is drop dead gorgeous (a shame she suffers from Noassatall)
I'll probably see it this week, perhaps tonight. It might help assuage some of the rancor my girlfriend has been having lately.
Not sure if I posted this already... 9 - 3/10 - Terrible plot; it's like they made it up as they went. I was expecting something that brought it together at the end, and needless to say I was sorely disappointed.
Surrogates - 6/10 - Not bad; pretty formulaic, but they don't stray too far from the formula so it's pretty entertaining. Average.
Munich- I know it's a tad old, but i finally got around to watching it and came away very impressed. Spielberg is at his directorial best, and Geoffrey Rush is one of my favorite actors even if he never has superstar roles. The story is also very compelling (which I suppose it should be given the history) and the characters are all intriguing in their own way. 9.5/10
