was debating on which movie to watch and in the end i just chose Time Traveler's Wife LOL its not as bad as i thought it would be. 7/10
Monsters vs Aliens 7/10 as a kids movie it was funny though predictable at times (it is a kids movie after all) it had a very star studded cast though.
Extract 5/10 Not a bad movie but not nearly as funny as what it could have been. It was like Mike Judge wrote all of the characters like he did in Office Space and then decided to turn down the funny about 30%. It was like you could see each character about to break through and give you something classic but it never happened. Just too sedate.
8/10 Lola Rennt (Run Lola) I highly recomend it because it's got a very unique concept. It's a German film with English subtitles. The story is about Lola who has only 20 minutes to get to her boyfriend. There's three "what if" versions of her doing so, but each time she starts off about 3 seconds slower. On her way, she interacts with several people while running and the whole outcome of the plot changes each time. For example, she runs along a guy riding a bike who chats with her. He doesn't pay attention so he hits the side of a passing car. A girl helps him up and they fall in love and gets married. In the second version, he misses the car then goes on to becoming a drug addict.. etc.
Love that movie, saw it back in college, totally rewatchable for me too. If you haven't seen it on bluray pick it up, looks like fantastic!
9- 4/10 A bunch of sock puppets trying to save mankind from a giant spider machine created by a scientist... I was hoping 6,5,0 and a decimal would show up during the movie to refund my money back... The effects and animation was astounding but everything else is like watching a Spurs game in slow motion...
Helvetica (80%) - "Helvetica" is a documentary about a typeface. Yes, that's right. It's 90 minutes of discussion and interviews about a font...and it's pretty fascinating. Granted, as a budding web designer I likely have more interest in typefaces than do most people. For instance, I like to annoy my girlfriend quite often by pointing out fonts on billboards, packaging, magazine covers, etc. Helvetica is particularly interesting because it's the most used font ever created. You see it everyday and you don't even realize it...in fact it's probably on countless items all around you as we read this. Companies like 3M, American Airlines, AT&T, BMW, Jeep, Microsoft, Apple, and Crate & Barrel all use Helvetica. It also makes an appearance on the NASA Space Shuttle, as well as IRS tax forms. It's used so widely because of its legibility and neutrality. It can be used for anything, which makes it great. Problem is, it IS used for everything, so some designers feel its the typeface of the conformist. I happen to like it quite a bit, much like this documentary. Philadelphia (83%) - It's hard to believe I hadn't seen this movie yet, nearly 2 decades after its initial release, but I'm glad I finally made time for it. To no one's surprise, I found it to be superbly written and acted, and it had a message that resonates even today, in a world where AIDS is no longer the mystery it was in the late 80's and early 90's. All in all, a very powerful film that everyone should see.
Cool Hand Luke - 1967 Official Rating: 6 / 10 A perfect example of why southern America (not including soCal) is so mundane and overrated. A rebel without a cause theme that resonates strongly with burnouts and people desperately looking to identify with a film. The southern drawl is a perfect way to mask the overall stupidity of the characters who try to remind us of the "good ol times" when you had nothing to do but mess around with your friends. However, it was stylisticly brilliant and much of it's popularity comes from the fact that it was written in the 60's (and the numerous Christ references - America is a sucker for that). Thanks to the hippies who looked for aimless leaders, it was a financial and critical success. Based on the movie alone, very ordinary and boring. -Ronny
9 There's a number of things that aren't really explained in the film, and therefore it probably could have been extended an extra 30 minutes. Regardless it was incredibly enjoyable and the animation was pretty stunning. 7/10
Before you start talking about the stupidity of the characters and insulting individuals, you may need to realize that "it's popularity" is incorrect- unless you think the sentence should be written "stylistically brilliant and much of it is popularity...." It should read like , "much of its popularity..." Kind of tough to call southern America overrated and stupid when you can't master basic grammar, ain't it???
I wrote the review in close to a minute, and when someone chooses to nitpick over spelling mistakes instead of the actual content, it's a perfect example of a point hitting too close to home. That being said, was there anything in particular you liked/disliked about the movie?
Saw "9" last night. It's like they made up the plot as they went along; that, with awful dialogue. I'd give it a 4/10.
Yes, it was bad wasn't it? It was extremely boring and none of the characters really drew out at me at all!!!
Saw Taking Woodstock yesterday 7 out of 10 Writing was god awful and there were a few side plots that were questionable, but the movie was saved by some really great performances and I'm a little biased to the subject matter. Liev Schreiber was excellent
