Well, got inspired to watch some of the classic horror movies this weekend: Jaws Carrie The Shining Silence of the Lambs The Blair Witch Project Psycho Rosemary's Baby The Exorcist All 10s- great movies in their own way. Jaws and Silence are more suspenseful than horror, same with The Shining. But terrific nonetheless. The Exorcist is still the most frightening, but, you know, Carrie is really creepy. With that mother, and the hand at the end- still gives you the creeps.
Talk about going from one extreme to the other.... Schindler's List - Saw it when it first came out but didn't really know enough about the history to really get into it. Since then, I've read a lot about WWII and the Nazi regime, so I re-watched it last night and WOW. What a powerful, powerful movie. Took me 2 hours to decompress before I could go to bed. And the closing credits when they were putting the stones on his grave..... Truly one of the greatest movies ever made. 10/10. Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay - I loved the first movie, but this one was literally un-watchable. I just turned it off about 10 minutes ago after watching about 30 or so minutes and not even cracking a smile. Put it right back in the Netflix envelope and sealed it. Horrible movie. 0/10.
I just watched this yesterday It was ok . . a entertaining movie [Tim Burtonish . . and I don't like Tim Burton] Spoiler Did the ending with the well remind you of THE RING The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (2009) this was pretty funny . .. I like it more than Pineapple Express and the other Seth Rogan move [Observe and report?] Piven is good Rocket River
final destination 2/10, only bcuz i got a pair of 3d glasses, otherwise 0/10 inglourious basterds 7/10, not great, i was expecting a 'great' movie, maybe i just dont enjoy these, brad pit was funny
I grabbed this movie this weekend after seeing it mentioned here a few times. I thought it was a fantastic film, but I wasn't blown away by it. It drug out a bit too long, but again a very great film. 8/10 I also grabbed City of God. I think I have rated this film before in here so not going to rate it again....but after watching these two movies, I am so unbelievably grateful that I was raised in America. Savages - this is the 2nd consecutive film with Phillip Seymour Hoffman that is dreadfully slow and nearly completely void of a REAL plot. ("Doubt" being the other.) PSH delivers a solid performance, but the film just drags and goes nowhere for an hour and a half. A few chuckles were found during the movie so....5/10 Towelhead - Warning: I'm gonna put this in a spoiler....it's not for the faint of heart. Spoiler This movie sucked on so many levels. The only reason I picked it up was because I read a short interview about the film with Alan Ball the director of "Towelhead", and they had mentioned that the film takes place in Houston. From the opening scene of this film it was pretty clear that this movie was going to be very uncomfortable. It only gets worse from there, with horrible Texas cliches (one scene has a neighbor with a southern accent so thick, it's obvious that she is from Alabama/Georgia area. Not Texas) and mind-numbingly stupid racial slanders. I turned it off after about 30 minutes when a scene showed an adult male molesting his 13 year old neighbor in graphic detail. I highly recommend this movie to nobody. Never see it. After this movie and "An American Beauty" I'm fairly certain that Alan Ball has a bizarre fascination with under-aged females. 0/10
District 9: 9/10. Solid film with great parallels - makes you think a bit as you walk out of the theater without being preachy at all.
Fast Times at Ridgemont High - I watched this last night just for kicks. I hadn't seen it in years. Still holds up really well after all this time. Brought back a lot of great mammor...er, memories. What a great soundtrack. And yes...the pool scene still does it for me. Life's the same, moving in steeeereooooo.....
Mike Damone for President. The lady will have the linguine with white clam sauce and a coke with no ice
The most influential movies for me in my youth: Fast Times at Ridgemont High Repo Man The Breakfast Club I was destined to be Spicoli (substitute skateboarding for surfing). I also recently rewatched Fast Times and would agree that it has withstood the test of time. 10/10.
One of the things I like to do after watching a movie is immediately go to imdb and read the trivia. A couple of interesting things I read (that I’m sure you already know): - The chick in the car laughing at Brad in his pirate hat is Nancy Wilson from Heart. - Unbeknownst to the cast and crew, Brad used a gigantic dildo while beating off in the bathroom. So when Linda walks in, the look of shock and disgust on her face is totally legit because she actually thinks it’s real. - Nicholas Cage is one of Brad’s buddies but he is named as Nicholas Coppola in the credits.
Saw Extract this weekend, solid funny movie but walked out feeling it could have been a lot funnier. C+
