I finally saw Whiplash. I majored in jazz studies in college, but I think I was too close to the subject matter to really enjoy the film. I kept noticing all the technical mistakes most people would miss. But even aside from that, the plot was thinner than I expected. Both the romantic subplot and family scene just seemed tacked on. It's not a bad film, but I expected to enjoy it more than I did. Most people will probably like it more than I did.

Really badass movie. Not much thinking with mindless action. Frigging Tink Tink was the best. And everyone played their part well.

I actually found the action scenes a little corny. But I still got lost in the world because the characters (especially the villains) were tons of fun. Samuel L. Jackson absolutely killed in his role, I found myself wanting his character on screen every second of the movie.

It was also nice pacing - aside from the (already becoming notorious) church scene where overwhelming pace was kind of the point, I wasn't having to spend any time trying to catch up to the story; nor was I ever really losing interest.

The plot wasn't anything to write home about (pretty simple), but the execution of that simple concept was fantastic.

    The Signal - 1/10

Should I be blown away by the ending or any part of the movie? Because it was quite shyte. Please DO NOT watch this crap. Here, I'll tell you the ending:

Everyone's a robot and dude is in a space ship. Waste of time.

    The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug

I'm behind on the Hobbit trilogy cause it just hasn't piqued my interest the way LOTR did. Second one is definitely better than the first, though it still has the same flaws as Unexpected Journey. There's just so much unnecessary filler, too much CGI and Jackson is trying way too hard to develop the same emotional resonance found in the first trilogy. This isn't a battle for all of Middle Earth. It's about dwarves wanting their gold back. And jeez there was a lot of sweeping wide shots in this. But still, it wasn't a complete slog like part one. The first two acts were a little slow at times, but the final act with Smaug was pretty brilliant.

Wow, never heard of this movie but if your into films like memento that requires thinking but is watchable and not overly confusing, you will like this.

It's about a group of 8 people having a dinner party during a comet landing when the lights go off and they find the only house in the neighborhood that still has lights is a few blocks down. One of the characters goes there to see if they can use the phone since the lines were down only to find that the people inside the house are themselves. This leads to a very interesting story with some discussions on physics and alternate realities.

It took me two viewings to fully understand what happened at the end but it's very much an edge of your seat thriller mid way through. Acting was very good, very realistic dialogue, no name actors which made it better IMO.

Bird Man - I only watched about an hour of it. It was TERRIBLE. Another example of Hollywood falling in love with a movie about acting or Hollywood. Garbage. 1/10.

Gone Girl - Better than I thought it would be. 7/10.

Gone Girl - 7 out of 10. While a bit uncomfortable watching it with my wife (yikes, hoping she doesn't get any ideas) and my 16 daughter (warning... not appropriate for a 16 year old daughter), it was a really good movie with plenty of twists. One part was disappointing... spoilered without giving any details...

Ending... a bit sudden, and unexplained

Yea I've watched the trailer for it after not seeing it and it just looked stupid to me. I never take movie reviews seriously. I like what I like.

I was going to give the flick an 8, but on reflection I gave it another half a point for the Swedish Princess's bare arse. Royalty!

It was a good mystery/thriller, but the ending was quite shyte. Very unsatisfying and wtf-ish. Everything else was a good build-up but no orgasm in the end.
