Saving Mr. Banks was free on Starzz OnDemand. It's the Tom Hanks as Walt Disney movie. You have to look for it but it's a pretty good look at The 60's. It's really mostly a tour de force for Emma Thompson. Pack a lunch, it's 127 minutes long.
Amazing Spiderman 2. 1 out of10. Awful. Really awful. Awful villains. Awful hero. Awful hero's aunt. Heck, the movie even managed to make Emma Stone awful (a high school senior, really?). I mercifully fell asleep twice during the movie. Had awful dreams afterwards. Did I say it was awful? Awfully awful.
The Wolverine Definitely among my favorites of the XMen movies and a good lead in to Days of Future Past. 8/10
TMNT: 4/10 Sacks was just unnecessary, as was the Asian chick who kept getting her ass kicked every other scene. Story sucked, the whole journalist thing "trying to get a big story" was unoriginal. Only gave it 4 because Shredders costume was really ****ing badass, Michaelangelo was awesome & Megan Fox is still hot.
Just saw Lucy this last weekend. It was the worst movie I've seen in a long time. The only good part was ScarJo. 1 star out of 5 and only because she is easy on the eyes.
I'm sorry Nero... didn't mean to come off as a troll. I didn't like The Wolverine and am a BIG X-Men fan. In fact, I love all the Xmen movies except for the two Wolverine standalone movies and that reprehensible pile that Brett Rattner put out. To be as succinct as possible, I'll say that I found The Wolverine boring... and not just the parts where there's no "action." The long, extended CG hand-to-hand fight scenes (on top of the train, for example) just bored me to tears. There were also drawn-out "exposition" conversations... you know where the only reason people are just talking is to inform the viewer of the plot. By the end, I didn't feel connected to any of the characters... Recently re-watched Hellboy... and I think that's a pretty good comp. Hellboy is heavy on CG, has some long CG hand-to-hand scenes, but I felt much more invested... I cared more. Maybe it's a vague criticism, but The Wolverine lacked a soul.
The Counselor (streaming on HBOGO): I liked this movie. I didn't love it but somehow, I can imagine re-watching the hell out of it on TNT. There were a few sexually explicit scenes that, while I enjoyed their um "aesthetic quality," they seemed gratuitous and not related to the progression of the plot at all. I enjoyed how heavily conversational the move is and I did get lost on occasion plot-wise... not that I minded that. Fassbender and Bardem were particularly good, as usual. 5/10 Pacific Rim (streaming on HBOGO): Really good. Funny to see Charlie Kelly as the scientist trying to save the world and I really love Rinko Kikuchi. Having two pilots be in a "mind-meld" was pretty cool and I wish they could've explored that more. I have a feeling that if they tried (or if Michael Bay wasn't Satan), the transformer movies could've been something this good. 7/10
From the same writer or director, there is a movie called Enemy starring Jake Gellanyhall (or however you spell it), very good psychological thriller. Ending will leave you with questions, you will either love it or be totally confused by it.
I took the wolverine movies as they were I divorced my expectations from them and did enjoy them Liev Schreiber was incredible as Sabretooth - the best interpretation of the character in a while. The first movie was ok until the DEADPOOL stuff and Will I AM The Second movie fail with the inclusion of Lady Hydra The reinvention of the Silver Samurai Rocket River overall not GREAT movies. . but it is not sharknado
Perhaps my review was effected by my expectation, which were admittedly high for The Wolverine considering the reviews. I thought, "Finally... they are making up for XMen Origins..." I thought it would be on par with the most recent Marvel movies released and that probably tempered my reaction. I will agree completely that it's no Sharknado... to its credit. I'll also agree that Liev is bad*** in just about everything he's in. He always brings it. What's the best movie of 2014 so far? I haven't seen one that I'd put into contention yet, but it's early.
Guardians of the Galaxy is pushing hard for the spot Captain America: Winter Soldier was great as well I'm sure there is a MY LEFT FOOT or NOT COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN out there that the critics will rave about and about 1% of the people will have seen that will earn the awards Rocket River
The Other Woman - 2/10 some cringe worthy terribad scenes Spiderman 2 - 4/10 nothing notable Divergent - 6/10 not bad has some potential very Hunger Gamesesque
Ponyo Predictable story but very charming and love the animation and art direction. Sad we won't get any more Miyazaki movies. 7/10
No Country for Old Men 9/10 I'm not sure how I went so long without seeing it, that was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.
