Agreed. It's depressing as shiz. I don't recall shedding man tears in a cartoon besides Lion King... but this one was sad man tears.
Grand Budapest Hotel, 8.5/10. I really didn't want to see this very much, but Mrs. B-Bob dragged me to it yesterday. I was worried it was going to be another overly cute set piece like the Life Aquatic (which I really loathed). But this was probably Anderson's best movie since Rushmore. I definitely thought it was better than Moonrise Kingdom, which I liked well enough. What's different is that the main character actually is close to a real person, a fascinating and funny person, plus there are tangible and creepy villains. Finally, some of the visuals are his best ever. It's hard to explain, but many times you literally can't tell if something is a real set, a cartoon, or a little model set. It's an incredibly cool effect to witness and it helps Anderson create this alternate universe (a pseudo-Europe of the early 20th century).
Noah has been getting very mixed from Christian audiences, and at first, I had my doubts about the story also. As a person who knows the story very well, I was surprised at the subtleties of many elements/symbols were in the story. The curse of Ham plays a major role in the story (Genesis 9:20-27). Another surprising element was the use of "The Watchers," fallen angels who remain on Earth after the fall of Adam. I believe the only mention of The Watchers in the Bible is in Daniel, with some references to them in the extrabiblical book of Enoch. While Aronofsky does take a few liberties in the story, I believe he kept the major themes and meaning. The cinematography and visual effects are excellent, and the acting is excellent as well. The pacing of the story can be disjointed at times, especially the first 30 or so minutes. Noah - 7.5/10
"In a world" In a world full of dorky dramedies, this one takes the cake. pretty good cake too. 8.013/10. Had not seen Lake Bell since How To Make It In America but nice performance.
Frozen: 9/10. One of the better animated movies in a long time. This will sound weird for a cartoon, but Kristen Bell NAILED it. Seriously. Disney found their groove on this one. I don't normally like musicals.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier - 8.7/10 I really, really wish they changed Scarlet's character up a bit. She just throws the whole movie off for me, from her Spoiler monotone voice that just kills the moment to some unrealistic dialogue that she toward the end with the court/judges. Besides from that, I love the overall plot and the writing wasn't half bad.
Drinking Buddies, 7/10 This is one of those movies you're not sure is going to have any substance at all and it surprises you. Nice film. Olivia Wylde was very good.
I, Frankenstein - 1/10 Miraculously made it half way before finally turning it off. What the hell did I just watch? Will now torrent other movies and maybe fap to some pr0nz to get this piece of garbage off my mind.
"JOE" After spending in what seems decades in hollywood purgatory, nicolas case ascends to the heavens to recapture his career with this role. 8.54/10 going to go see 'Draft Day' now, about kevin costner turning the browns franchise around, yeah ok cleveland.
Just watched Fargo for the first time because the promos for the new TV show looked interesting, and I thought it was pretty great. Really enjoyed it. 8/10
8.5/10 Captain America 2. It's probably my favorite Marvel movie so far. 8/10 Raid: Redemption. If you're looking for non-stop action then this is a must watch! Only downside for some of you might be that its a foreign film so everything is going to be subtitles.
