Most recently, here are some films I watched; Wendy and Lucy - An excellent character study (taking place over 24 hours) by Michelle Williams (the blonde girl from Dawson's Creek). Probably not enough plot for most people, but I enjoyed it. SlingBlade - Hadn't seen it until recently, and I have to wonder how the hell this won best screenplay. The dialogue was hackneyed, the characters inconsistent and the camera work cheap (not low-budget - cheap). A big disappointment. Forgiving Dr Mengele - A documentary about a woman who (along with her sister) was part of a group of twins that were used as human guinea pigs by the infamous Nazi scientist. Not the most cohesive film, but it gives you a lot to think about. This is England - Another good character study, this about a young boy in 1983 England who falls in with skinheads. Very good and believable performances, but I felt it needed a couple more scenes to justify the actions of some of the characters.
Weird, a friend of mine recommended Videodrome to me last weekend. I will definitely be giving it a look.
Quantum of Solace (78%) - Pretty good flick. Lots of action and awesome chase scenes, but the plot felt scattered. Could have been better, but good enough to kill a couple of hours.
Frequency - 8/10 Interesting plots. This is random but I found a character was named Chuck Hayes when the credit rolls at the end of the movie.
Overnight (80%) - Pretty interesting documentary about Troy Duffy, the rags-to-riches prodigy who hit it big when Hollywood caught wind of his screenplay for "Boondock Saints" back in the mid 90's. It follows Duffy and his friends as they unsuccessfully ride the wave of stardom and eventually come crashing back to Earth. Given his underdog background you'd expect to feel sympathy for Duffy, but he just might be the world's biggest assho|e. I literally found myself wanting to punch the screen. Here's the trailer if anyone cares to give it a look... <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2Ffjm8luA_s&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2Ffjm8luA_s&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
Taken - 8/10 -- Solid movie, underrated by the critics.. don't listen to the critics. Bunch of d-bags now.. I'm hating them more and more..
Taken - 7/10 This was a good movie but it seemed like it was out of touch with reality like the father beating up 8 guys all by himself. Things like that...
Taken 6/10: Was very entertaining, but parts of it were just too unbelievable. Still, up until the final 20 minutes or so I'd have given it a 7 or an 8, but the ending sequence was pitiful. Spoiler Once he shot the Sheik who was holding his daughter it went in to total crapfest. The girl was just rescued from that nonsense and there was no drama involved? He shot the wife of a man involved in internal French security and nobody tried to stop him from leaving the country? On a commercial flight? LOL? By the time the plane lands the girl is back to her usual giddy self?
Day The Earth Stood Still - I rented this through Netflix and watched it on a flight the other day. The movie is garbage. The child actor was a little freakin' brat and not a very good actor. On a side rant: why do so many kids in movies that have big parts have crazy hair styles? Reeves is a horrible actor and play the part perfectly as a monotone speaking alien. I could go on and on, but I don't want to think about the movie anymore.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine - 5.6 Could have been so good, but the story dragged on at times. Other x-men like Gambit and Deathpool were hardly even in the movie. Just a very big disappointment. Star Trek - 8.4 I really enjoyed this movie. Interesting plot and pretty good acting. No huge flaws imo, just a lot of fun.
Lakeview Terrace: 6.5/10 Samuel L. Jackson makes almost any movie watchable. I thought this started off pretty good, but the ending was a bit lame.
Angels & Demons - 8/10 Looking at it purely from an entertainment standpoint. I haven't read the book, and I didn't really care for The Da Vinci Code too much so this was a pleasant surprise. Angels and Demons was much more gripping and easy to follow.
" The Natural" 10/10 I saw it for the first time 2 weeks agon on AMC, and it was just an incredible film of Perseverance. I didn't get why the crazy biotch shot him though. "Rudo y cursi" 9.5/10 It has been eight years since dego luna and gael have teamed up for a movie. I was laughing through the entire film.
Ichi the Killer - 10/10 I've only seen one other Takashi Miike film and that was Audition, but this film was amazing. I'd highly recommend it. In the next couple of weeks I'll go watch Star Trek, Wolverine, and Terminator Salvation.
yep, especially when he was in a room with 4 guys having point blank shots with mini-uzis miss him every time.
