Slumdog Millionaire: 5/5 Spoiler 99% of the film was painfully depressing, but its not too sappy ending managed to uplift me and keep me happy about the film. (Film reminded me of Shawshank, which I also loved.) Beautiful, filthy, painful, happy, sad, inspiring, and joyous. Well done, Boyle! I doubt I'll ever watch Slumdog again! I don't want to go through it a second time. I'll never completely forget the chapter with the "Indian Fagin", nor the hotel room betrayal by Salim. Body of Lies: 5/5 Spoiler I didn't 'live' this film as much as Slumdog, but it still grabbed my attention and kept hold. My biggest dislike of the film, 'Why does Hollywood always need a romance?!?' But, the romance eventually worked for the film, even if it did make me take a step back during the Palestinian Refugee camp and shake a fist at Hollywood*. The movie did leave me feeling somewhat... 'bleh', but I still enjoyed every* moment of it. Favorite aspect of the movie would be Mark Strong's character, Hani Salaam - the Jordanian Head of Intelligence. Apparently he, Crowe, and Ridley Scott are doing a new Robin Hood film; I'm now looking forward to that film. DiCaprio? He remains an ultra-safe bet for being A) great B) in a great film. (I have not seen Revolutionary Road).
I saw The Soloist this past Saturday. It was kind of dry. Ok I'm not the best movie critic/reviewer. The Soloist, Drama, B The acting was superb though. If it was based on the acting it would have been A. But the story didn't really lead to anywhere, so B.
Rambo (the 4th one) - something is seriously wrong with me, bc I enjoyed the heck outta this movie. It was short and violent and beat all my expectations of it. I wouldnt give it an A but I'll give it a B. Run Fatboy Run - cute flick, could have been funnier but a decent rental. Its by no means as hillarious as Hot Fuzz. B- Resident Evil Extinction - not even 40 partially naked Millas could lift this silly flick. I've noticed something about Ali Larter.....she picks some baaaad movies. D+ only bc I'm a dork fanboy of the videogames. X-Men Origins: Wolverine - Better than the 3rd X-Men movie for sure. I thought it was great until the dude with the swords for hands at the ends. That character just sucked. However, I love Wolverine and since I stopped reading comics in the 80s I lack the Marvel history to nitpick at the plot. B+
wolverine --5/10 had some decent action scenes, i didnt care how they portrayed gambit and deadpool. i was kind of shocked at some of the cgi it looked kind of bad actually. like when wolverine is first looking at his claws in the bathroom the claws look almost cartoon like. would have been a movie that i would have rented for sure but seeing it in the theaters would be a coin flip for me if there is nothing else that i want to see playing
Valkyrie - 7.5/10 Pretty good movie. as always, Cruise gives a solid performance. although you know the outcome of movie, like Titanic, it's still very suspensful.
The Wrestler= A Great movie and as a fan of wrestling it was very impactful. However, I don't get the Mickey Rourke Oscar hype for it. While he was good in his role, the role didn't require a whole lot.
Doubt, Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Meryl Streep. F. complete bust. Seven Pounds, Will Smith. F- horrible. Fast and Furious 4 maybe the worst movie ever. ha. Before the Devil Knows You're Dead PSHoffman, Ethan Hawke, Marisa Tomei A. great movie! (Tomei's nude scenes are worth it alone) Taken Liam Neeson. C. not BAD......but far from great. Yes Man! Jim Carrey. A. really good movie. lots of fun.
The Wrestler (83%) - Very good, but not great. "The Ram" was a very lovable character who I did feel a lot of sympathy for, but it just wasn't as engrossing as I expected it to be. I'm not a wrestling fan at all, so that may have knocked a little of the shine off of it for me. Or maybe it was just too hyped up... Spoiler I did love the ending though. That final shot was a great choice
Saw Star Trek the other night I would rate it a solid 8.5/10 for sure also saw wolverine would rate it a solid 2.5/10 for sure
This movie was so haunting and mentally disturbing, I couldn't even finish it (even though it was thoroughly engrossing).
The Others - ok, I'm possibly the last person in the world to see this. I saw it on a 777 last weekend, it was free and short. Maybe it was scarier in a dark theater? I wasnt scared at all... I give it a C for the plot twist at the end, even it I sorta figured it about the kids from the get go.
Videodrome - 10/10 - I hadn't seen this movie in years. David Cronenberg is a total freak. The "technical data" is certainly outdated (video, duh), but the concept and execution (esp. considering the era and budget) is freakin' awesome.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona - I give it 8/10. It made me really think about relationships in my life. Penelope Cruz was pretty good in this movie.
