500 days of summer Grade: A I have seen this several times and 60% of the time I enjoy it every time.
Django Unchained (the D is silent) - 9/10 Could've been a 10 but I disagree with the direction Tarantino went with the German. So many memorable scenes, and brilliant acting. I loved the scene with the "tell miss Laura goodbye" and couldn't stop laughing.
Side Effects - 7/10. Really liked it. Reminded me of the Alec Baldwin movie called Malice. End of Watch - 7.5/10. Damn good movie, much better than I expected. One of the better police movies I've seen.
Skyfall - 8.5 out of 10, great Bond flick. Would be higher but all of the ridiculous hacking and crap just had me rolling my eyes. The Bourne Legacy - 8.5 out of 10. I was surprised by this one. I am a huge Bourne Trilogy fan (books and movies) so I was really pissed when they decided to move forward without Matt Damon. I didn't realize they chose to run this story along side of the Bourne movies at the same times, which made for an interesting and great movie. Previously I hadn't really been a fan of Rachel Weisz, but she is great in this movie. Ed Norton plays a great "villain" too.
The Last Exorcism part 2 – Totally generic, unoriginal and unneeded sequel, weird part is it isn’t terrible just readily forgettable. Ashley Bell was very good in the first one but she’s just not strong enough to carry a whole movie. C-
Jack the Giant Killer 6/10 Weird movie. The same kid who was 'Beast' in First Class, and who also just opened as the star of 'Warm Bodies', stars in this movie alongside Ian McShane and Ewan McGregor in a big cgi-heavy retelling of the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale. It was ok, nothing particularly thought-provoking or deep to it, very generic and standard fare. Not bad, and everyone seemed to be having a reasonably good time with it, but the overall design was a little too 'canned spam' to me - generic extras dressed in ren-faire garb, generic soldiers, generic settings, generic unhappy idealistic princess, generic farmboy hero, generic secretly-evil 'King's Most-Trusted Advisor' dude, generic evil human-devouring giants dwelling above the clouds.. I do give it points for a few nice moments when we first see a giant, and how monstrously quick and dangerous they are.. and a few fun gross-out points for how much boogers and farts the giants seem to have. But overall, kind of weird, not following the traditional story structure really, which in this kind of story was a bit of a detriment. Lots of missed opportunities, all told. Fun if you have a young son to take with you, I wouldn't bother on date night..
Redtails: 5/10 most of the cast couldn't act which did a disservice to the story, as it had potential...action secquences were alright
Silver Linings Playbook - 9/10 - I knew the ending was to be expected but the acting was solid. Jennifer Lawrence is hawt. Chris Tucker was funny too. Django Unchained - 8.5/10 - Finally got around to watching this in the theater. Loved it but it did drag a bit towards the end. Side Effects - 8/10 - Solid acting and I love Soderbergh's style. Some surprises, expected and unexpected. Ted - 7/10 - Good for a one time watch with many funny moments. The Killing Jar - 2/10 - Roommate forced me to watch it. Terrible, the only redeeming value is Michael Madsen being a badass Rented End of Watch for tonight and I'm pretty excited
Hype - 7/10. Documentary about Seattle music scene. It was a nice reminder there are actually a few bands from Seattle I like. Win Win. 8/10
Wreck It Ralph - 9.5/10 Fantastic movie. Good story, cool references to other games, pretty funny, original, good message, and actually had a surprising twist in the ending which was unexpected. Wish I saw this one in theaters.
I recently saw this too, except I was a bit underwhelmed. After the hype and great reviews everyone gave this, I might have expected too much. I imagined that this game would have real characters as part of the main plot, not just some side thing. It was a decent flick, but wasn't as emotionally attached to the characters like in Monsters Inc, for example. I couldn't care less what happens to glitch or Ralph. I give it a 5.5/10. Probably because the hype got me expecting too much.
Life is Beautiful - 7/10 Pretty good movie, but I prefer movies about history to be a little more realistic. There is no way the dad could have gotten away with everything he got away with in that concentration camp. It treated WWII kind of like The Sound of Music treated it.
Silver Linings Playbook - 8/10 Superb acting, especially De Niro and Lawrence. Although the ending was predictable and execution was excellent.
