Taken 2 went off the rails early and often Mainly because of the daughter . . . Spoiler The daughter still being b*tchy to her father who had done the impossible to save her The Daughter still 'sneaking off' like Taken 1 never happened then The Daughter basically becoming the female version of him in the middle . .. out of the blue. Famke was just a prop . . . pretty useless the whole movie Plus I hate just super dumb criminals. . . . SMH Rocket River
Haha no I didn't. Or at least I didn't try to. It just didn't add anything new to the formula. Same stereotypical characters, same stereotypical adversities, same basic plot line with some singing, and overall just nothing new. Once again....not bad, just not that good in my opinion.
Django Unchained - 8/10 - I thought it was pretty good. I thought the ending was kind of anti-climatic. They should have just ended it cleanly the 30 minutes prior.
Warm Bodies - 7.5/10 Actually a pretty good little quirky take on the (rapidly-getting-tired) zombie genre. I liked it quite a bit, and it also has the benefit of the single greatest use of the line 'B*tches, man!' in the history of cinema End of Watch - 8/10 Very good movie, both leads were completely believable in their roles as front-line LA cops who bravely stick their heads in the lion's mouth day after day. And since I already knew what the phrase 'End of Watch' actually meant, the whole movie had this cloud of dread hanging over it, which made it very gripping. Recommended.
Pitch Perfect - 8/10 This movie is far from perfect - I will get into that in a moment- but it is amazingly good in spite of itself. The first thing to know is, this movie is just on the other side of twisted - it's not spoiling anything to say that in the first minute of the movie, you are treated to a lovely sweet angel suffering from helpless projectile vomiting while singing on stage. And each character, far from being stereotypical, is actually a refreshing departure from 'standard'. From Rebel Wilson's hilarious 'Fat Amy', to the barely audible demented Asian chick, to the butch girl who sings like a pop star (and who actually WROTE 'S&M' for Rihanna), and of course Anna Kendrick being all purty, among several pretty faces and voices. And of course there is the aforementioned angel-faced beauty doing her best Marlon Brando impersonation from Apocalypse Now.. Yes, it's a fairy tale about the oh-so-fierce and competitive world of collegiate a-capella singing groups, and of COURSE the underdogs win in the end. That is not even the point though. So maybe it's predictable in that way, but it's no less satisfying. However, like I said, it's far from perfect. Several times watching it, I found myself scratching my head, wondering what just happened, or WHY did something just happen? This seems to be, at least as far as I can tell, due to really odd and poor editing. Several instances of bits and moments which don't make as much sense as they should, because it seems as though bits of these scenes were left on the cutting room floor. Not a deal-breaker though, and if you end up watching it over and over as many times as you probably will, then you figure the things out anyway. But it was just.. odd. But really, it's the music which makes this movie. Maybe a-capella mashups of pop hits over the last 30 years is not your thing, and that's fine. But every number in the film, regardless of which group is performing it, is top notch musical sweetness. Personally, this movie is my new guilty pleasure, I liked a lot. Not so much for all the fairly standard coming-of-age stuff, but mostly for the music, of which there is plenty. Speaking of which, even the 'bad guys' in this movie are not really bad guys. The leader of the 'bad guys' is kind of an arrogant dweeb, but even then, he and his group are actually really good at what they do, and that makes this different from the norm as well - even though they try to come off as mortal enemies, they are still capable of appreciating the talent in the other group, which I liked, and speaks well for the surely-inevitable sequel. I highly recommend this one, especially if you want a movie you watch on date night'..
Dark skies - 7.5/10 Pretty good alien scary movie IMO. A little different from your typical alien stuff. Had quite a few oh sh**! moments.
Seeking a Friend for the End of the World - 7/10 It was an interesting and quirky picture, yet thoroughly depressing in the end. Probably a 6/10 but I bumped it up to 7 because Keira Knightley is brilliant in it. Safety Not Guaranteed - 9.5/10 One of my favorite movies of the year, quirky and endearing. If you liked Jeff, Who Lives at Home you'll love this one. If you adore Aubrey Plaza this is an absolute must-watch. The rather abbreviated end is the only thing keeping it from a perfect score. Jeff, Who Lives at Home - 9/10 I actually watched this some time ago, but it is by the same guys behind Safety Not Guaranteed (and parts of The League). Fantastic movie, and one of Jason Segel's best. Ed Helms is strong as well... which is tough to imagine after this disaster of a season for The Office.
The Master - 8/10 I have no idea what was going on half the time, but it was a masterful performance by Joaquin Phoenix, and fantastic by the rest of the cast. I'm a huge Daniel Day Lewis fan, but Phoenix was amazing in this picture and should have gotten best actor. There is one uncut scene in jail cells which Phoenix absolutely nails, astonishing really.
Totally disagreed. Joaquin Phoenix is not even in the same league as Daniel Day Lewis. Joaquin Phoenix real life is almost the same as the way he play himself in most of his movies. As for Daniel Day Lewis everytime you watch one of his movie and see him in an interview. You just question is that the same person? That's how good Daniel Day Lewis is.
Actually just saw LOTR: Fellowship for the first time! I really enjoyed the battle scenes, the set-up/ talking scenes were slow at first because I really knew very little background of world and the characters, but now I can't wait to watch the next two! Great acting, great scenery, great soundtrack, great plot, overall 9/10 very good movie.
You should check out some of the directors cuts of the next two movies. They add a lot from the books that was cut from the original copy. A warning though, they are considerably longer films.
Good review. And I will admit I enjoyed the film as well. I originally agreed to watch (my two teenage daughters were all fired up to see this) was because Anna Kendrick (who always seems to be good... check out her performance in Rocket Science), and if the "angel-faced" is the one I am recalling, I actually was way more impressed with her "heavenly body", especially in the final number. But the music was upbeat and you have a hard time not smiling at the end. Nero, I suspect you will also like a similar movie called "Joyful Noise". Sure, Dolly Parton chews up the scenery and the rest of the acting is uneven. But like Pitch Perfect, you root for the underdog team, especially when it changes its approach, and the singing is "joyful", to say the least.
End of Watch: 8.75/10 Great movie, great characters was intense and had enough humor to take the edge off...
