Apocalypse Now: 5/10 It was an interesting film but I believe I had trouble truly understanding it. I am going to watch Redux to see if it helps any.
Quantum of Solace: 7/10 not too bad i enjoyed it a bit more than Casino Royale but you definitely have had to have seen CR to understand this movie better. Some of the camera shots make it hard to tell what was going on though in some of sequences I didnt like that.
Tropic Thunder - 7/10 Better than I thought it would be. I normally don't like Stiller's movies. Robert Downey Jr. was great. Religulous - 4/10 Not really a documentary, just Bill Maher pushing his view. I like Bill Maher and I agree with the point he was trying to make but the film just didn't work. On the same subject, I'm going to watch the BBC's "Brief History of Disbelief" and "Athieism Tapes" next.
Transporter 3 I heard someone say it wasnt as good as the other past 2 but the only thing I thought they could do was show off the Audi a bit more. The last couple made you say oooooh and whoaaa over that car. Other then that, the action was pretty tight, good fast fight scenes and not too many if any slow dragging scenes. 9 outta 10, recommended!
Eagle vs Shark-- 6/10 The film is in the same mold of Napolean Dynamite with the Jermaine Clement of Flight of the Conchords as the lead actor in the movie. It was decent, somewhat depressing, but also some really great lol scenes. If you like Napolean Dynamite, its definitely worth checking out.
The original, while having its moments of cheese, is very frightening in the depravity of its characters and the documentary-style filming. Rent it sometime- it's very weird in a '70s sort of way.
Redux might make it more confusing. Basically, it's based on the novel Heart of Darkness- the jist of the movie is that a Captain is sent out to execute a Colonel in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War (book is different in that it takes place in Africa) who has gone crazy. So, Martin Sheen's assignment is to take the boat with the crew members up to Cambodia (I think it's Cambodia), and the film documents their encounters along the way. Many people who don't like the movie say that it's not representative of Vietnam like Platoon- but it's not supposed to be. Vietnam just happens to be the backdrop. It does illustrate the craziness and psychotic behavior that can happen during wartime, and it's just one of the best movies all-time in terms of powerful scenes- like when they're shooting up the village while listening to Ride of the Valkyries or the encounter with the raft- or even the final scenes with Colonel Kurtz. It's not plot-driven like many war movies such as Saving Private Ryan and Full Metal Jacket- it's more about the images, characters, etc. that evolve from war in general. It's in my top 10- one of the best ever made.
Watchmen: 9/10 Watched this on shrooms. Wow. I love you, man: 8/10 Rudd was funny and Segel had his moments. Rashida Jones was stunning. Role Models: 6/10 Started off strong, then it plateaued then it just sucked at the end. That's enough Paul Rudd for a month.
I just watched FARGO for the first time ever. Did I miss something? I don't understand how people use words such as "masterpiece", "brilliant, "classic" so loosely to describe this film. And it has extremely high ratings from just about everyone from critics to viewers. I'll give it a 4/10
Depends on what type of movies you like. the Coen brothers have some pretty bizarre and off-center movies like Fargo, Blood Simple, Lebowski, and No Country for Old Men. My wife can't stand their movies- says "how can you like a movie when all the characters are either evil or pathetic?" Well, in Fargo, that's almost the case. Except the female cop is pretty cool. But it's a very odd movie- and very affecting. You know, it's one of those movies where the images stick to you for a long time- stuffing the guy in the wood chipper, the pathetic attempts by Lundergard to screw over his customers and others, etc. So, if you're into more traditional-type movies like The Dark Knight (not a put-down- that movie's great, but it's done in the more traditional sense), you wouldn't like a lot of films from the Coens. Their movies are very strange and somewhat twisted, but very affecting, also. OK, enough with the explanations. Last Movie Seen: Milk. Very good 9/10 rating. The X Files- 9/10. Extremely biased. Everything with the X files name gets a 9 or above. Australia- 5/10. Good for the most part. Maybe I need to see it again.
