Battle: Los Angeles - 7/10. Pretty good action scenes. Sorta reminded me of a mix of Independence Day, War of the Worlds and Blackhawk Down. Always good to see Michele Rodriguez and the guy from Shooter. Burlesque - 6/10. Kinda surprised I liked it this much. Christina Aguilera was pretty good in her role, always like Cher in movies and the baldheaded guy assistant played his usual role (he could have went directly to this movie from Devil Wears Prada). Just Go with It - 4/10. A few funny scenes (sorta obvious sight gags you'd expect from a movie with a plastic surgeon), but this one was painful to watch overall. Anniston is approaching Goldie Hawn and Shelley Long territory for me. And with all the buildup about Brooklyn Decker, even she was a let down for me. Sure, I didn't expect acting from her... but I really wasn't that wowed by her looks either.
Super 8 - 8/10 Due Date - 4.5/10 Super 8 was pretty entertaining. I usually hate movies with kids as the main characters since their acting typically sucks, but these kids did a great job. Due date was pretty bad. It had a few funny parts, but not worth watching.
Social Network - 8/10 Glad I saw it. I was afraid it would be the most boring movie ever. If what's in the movie is mostly true, I'm glad I got away from fb a long time ago. What a backstabbing douche. I mean I knew he had no social skills whatsoever from clips of his talks, but damn, he's also an *******. Also everyone in that movie looked 5 times better than in real life, cept for the main guy. I think they did that on purpose.
Midnight in Paris - 6/10 Not Woody Allen's best work, but not his worst. It's interesting to see how he is making big european cities characters in his movies the way he did with NYC in the past. It is funny at times and is a quirky story overall. Worth watching, but wait for it on DVD.
The Adjustment Bureau (2011) 7.5/10 Fans of Philip K. Dick will be disappointed, but if you watch this with an open mind, it's an interesting movie that's very different from the usual stuff coming out of Hollywood. It's a love story between a politician and a woman he falls in love with at first sight, but a mysterious organization gets in the way. Using some elements of movies like Dark City, the Matrix, Eternal Sunshine, and Inception, the film talks about themes like free will, fate, and finding your soul-mate. Damon and Emily Blunt are great, and this is worth renting if you like philosophy-lite films.
Priceless 7.5/10 - French film with Audrey Tatou where she dates older rich guys and ends up hooking up with a waiter that she mistakenly thinks is wealthy. Tatou is really gorgeous and she has this light, funny way about her that is really entertaining.
here are some of the movies I've seen over the last few months that I really enjoyed Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 8/10 Mesrine: Killer Instinct 8/10 The Chaser 7.5/10 The Next Three Days 7/10 City Island 7.5/10 Shutter Island 8/10 A Prophet 7.5 where I rate Inception a 8.5 and Shawshank at 9
So my girl made me watch Green Lantern and I thought it would be the worst movie ever before watching it, but it was actually surprisingly okay. Equal to or better than Thor in my opinion. 6/10 Another movie I saw was Inglorious Basterds. Incredible movie. Kinda felt like Casablanca at times. 9/10
Transformers 3 8/10 Yeah, I said it. This gets a high 8. Watched it yesterday with the 10-year-old, and it was about ten times better than either of the first two. It actually made some sense, the action wasn't stupid, and there were some characters who actually had a little more depth than a cereal box-cover. Oh and thank you Michael Bay! Rosie in place of Megan? Holy SHNIKEYS! For not being a trained actress as such, she seems to be a natural, and was far FAR more attractive than Megan Fox. Now don't misunderstand - Megan Fox is HOT. But this chick with the lips was just overwhelmingly stunning, and MB did not skimp on the perv shots, and right from the very beginning too. Our first exposure to the girl is slowly following those bare legs up some stairs (THOSE LEGS!) and that bottom (THAT BOTTOM!), carved directly by the Hand of God Himself! Whew. If I didn't already say Thank You Michael Bay... THANK YOU MICHAEL BAY! And several characters and actors I had no idea were in this one - Patrick Dempsey, and even Alan Tudyk (who is awesome in everything he is in) as a sort of gay lunatic Euro superman flunky (trust me, you gotta see it lol) Anyway, don't worry about seeing this on, it is SO much better than the first two. Thumbs Up! (Oh, and while I know it is in 3D, I saw it in the regular number of D's, and I don't really see how it would have been improved by watching it in 3d.. no need to spend 3 times as much. Catch a matinee with the kids and enjoy.)
You Got Served: Beat the World -100000/ 10 if thats even possible quite simple one of the worst if not the worst movie I have ever seen...I knew it wasnt going to be good but my friend and I have this thing about watching dance movies we like to laugh at them and their cliches and all. Terrible acting we can understand (need to find dancers first) but this had: terrible acting, terrible dancing, terrible story, terrible time framing (seemed like 20 things happened but apparently only in a span of one night?), terrible logic flaws, terrible directing -- unexplained dance shots or sequences, terrible music + songs repeated in multiple parts of the movie. it got to a point where we were hoping how bad can this movie get...i dont even know how something like this got approved to be made even if it was straight to video
Sounds like you got served by that movie. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - 9/10 Innovative style, blending of genres, fun. First time in awhile I felt like I was seeing something truly new.
I saw the first one. It was so bad I refuse to see the second one, not even on video. It's a shame because TF was a favorite during my childhood. I might take your word for it on the third.
