saw the original street figther movie last night (with van damme) in terms of an actual movie 3/10 in terms of factoring in nostalgia, my love for the corniness and all 7/10 sort of like commando but commando exuded awesomeness like no other
LOL, me and my wife tried to rent this movie from Blockbuster about a year ago. We had just seen Saw, so we were looking for the cheesiest, bloodiest movie we could possibly find. When we took it up front, the guy at the register would NOT let us rent it. He kept talking about how disgusting it was and insisted we get something else. He literally took it from us and wouldn't give it back. We finally just gave up and laughed at what a horrible salesman he was. True story.
Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa (68%) - Had some funny moments and likable charcters, but wasn't nearly on par with what Pixar has been serving up. Seemed to really drag in some parts. If I were Dreamworks, I'd make a full-length film that centers around the penguins. They're by far the best characters.
Crank (73%) - Mindless action that's fairly entertaining and definitely very different from the usual. Not great, but worth the watch.
Bangkok Dangerous - 58% I nice little action flick. It never got much hype or anything but I was pleasantly surprised.
Lilo and Stitch - I just came back from Disneyworld and since my daughter took photos with Lilo and Stitch I figured she would appreciate seeing the movie. It wasnt as good as other Disney movies, but my daughter laughed a lot. So, if you are 3 years old, I'd give it 4 stars outta 5, but if you're an adult I wouldnt waste your time on it.
The Unborn - 2.5/10 It sucked, but there were parts of it that made me laugh. The movie also made me hate the characters enough that I enjoyed when they died I guess.
I saw Quarantine. I thought the first half was pretty good and then the characters turned into the typical horror movie morons. The shaky cam in the last 20 minutes made me want to puke. 4/10
Boy A - 9/10 a british movie about a guy who just got out of prison and trying to change his life. very emotional...loved it.
The Big Labowski (83%) - Very funny, well acted, well directed, and entertaining throughout. Probably not as good as some make out to be, with its cult following and all...but again, very funny. Rescue Dawn (85%) - I'm a fan of Bale, but for some reason thought I wouldn't enjoy this as much as some of his other movies. However I was pleasantly surprised, and found the movie very engrossing right from the beginning. My only complaint would be that I feel they could have ramped up the emotional impact at the end. In my opinion, the last 10 minutes or so is a little flat.
Honestly, I don't think you can truly appreciate it until you've seen it a few times. Its very dialogue intensive, and the natural reaction is to want to follow the story line, and if you do that you'll probably just be disappointed.
What I truly enjoy about the Coen brothers' films is that they are always interesting. Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing, Blood Simple, Fargo, O Brother Where Art Thou, No Country, Lebowski, Hudsucker- they may not all hit the mark, but they are all watchable, and most are great- Fargo is in another category altogether. One of the most squeamish, greatest movies ever.
i asked this on the 2nd page and no one answered. but since you've now seen it: is christian bale's character purposely acting like a r****d, or was that just unintentional comedy?
Hmm...maybe so, but I do tend to pick up on witty dialogue pretty well. Better than most, I would guess. Plus I've seen it twice already (once last night while my gf was asleep, and once again this morning while she watched it).
In what way? I agree he acted a little "different", but to me he was just equal parts naive and macho. At one point he says "the man that strikes fear into me hasn't been born yet" or something along those lines. So maybe he just felt invincible, and was a bit out of touch with just how ****ed he was.
