The Eagle C- Very bland and unfocused, better movie out there on DVD which is much better called Centurion by Neil Marshall which isn't handicapped by a PG-13 rating.
Malibu's Most Wanted: 5/10 I dislike Jamie Kennedy and he's always struck me as one of those Pauly Shore or Rob Schneider type of actors but this movie makes me laugh. I am not sure if it is the absurdity of it or the over-the-top stereotypes or what but it is funny. Unfortunately, that is all it is. BONUS: Who knew that Monster was booming? Spoiler
Really? The reason I ask is that my lady wants to see this movie and I thought it was surprising as she never wants to see anything outside of Lifetime movies.
"Let the Right One In" (original Swedish version of Let Me In) - 3.5 out of 5. One of the best horror flicks I've seen recently. "Tiny Furniture" (Indie Comedy) - 2.5 out of 5. "The Secret In Their Eyes" (Argentinian film - Won best foreign film a couple years ago). 4.0 out of 5
I might have been exaggerating. It was ok. A "nice" date movie. As my wife said, it has Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, so everybody wins.
Catfish - 8/10 - Watched this based on this thread. Interesting for sure. Still not sure how real it was. True Grit - 6/10 - Hugely disappointed with this one. Was expecting to love it and walked away very let down. I found it slow and just plain boring for the most part.
Blue Valentine (2010) 8.5/10 Pretty good movie along the lines of Revolutionary Road, Closer, Annie Hall, 500 Days of Summer, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Yes, those movies don't exactly match this one, but the theme of doomed relationships is the link. Ryan Gosling gave a great performance; Michelle Williams was fine. It really hammers the idea of attraction not being sufficient enough in the long-run, a stronger foundation is needed. Love doesn't conquer all, particularly an incompatibility of personalities and damaged goods. The part of unfulfilled potential is something many can relate to.
The Thaw - Eco-Horror film about deadly parasites. Bad acting. -D Ghost Machine - Future video game goes horribly wrong. Tired. - C
Bronson - worth watching for Tom Hardy's performance alone. Dude is crazy good in this movie Animal Kingdom - Aussie crime drama, well written, well acted, worth watching
Secondhand Lions - 8/10 Watched it on a recommendation, never would have looked at it myself. Loved it.
Animal Kingdom: THought I rated this but guess not...7.5/10 Good aussie movie... Wall Street, $ never sleeps: 5/10 I wanted to like this movie b/c I love the original, but man it SL makes movies suck...
Unknown - C - Just watch Taken again or .... Spoiler The Bourne Identity which it rips off in the last act
I am number four - Was interesting, maybe because we saw it in Imax. But overall it was better than I thought it would be. 7/10
Gran Torino - D+ Wow this Movie overrated; the acting is horrible; the dialog is cliched and laughable yet everyone has an orgasm all over the comments page on rotten tomatoes. Sweet Jesus, very disappointed in this film after hearing so many great things about it. Am I missing something? Brazil - B Kissing Jessica Stein - B
THANK YOU That was probably the dumbest movie I have ever seen. It tries to be edgy without stepping over the completely un-PC line. I find it very hard to believe that an old racist man who finds a bunch of young urban youths harassing a white girl is going to use the word "spook" to identify them, especially if he is willing to pull a gun on them. I like it how they picked Koreans as the most prominent minority race in the movie. That way they can say "gook" all they want because it is not as appalling and polarizing as some of the slurs for other races. I thought the whole movie was racist and hypocritical. Not to mention stupid and not entertaining. Seriously how many times can one man growl at something?
