Tron (74%) - Never seen it before yesterday, but I tried to do my best to view it in the context of when it was released. In that sense, it was quite visually impressive. It also had an interesting feel and original storyline. As an achievement I can say it's very impressive, but as a movie watching experience in 2009, it's just "pretty good" in my opinion.
The Heartbreak Kid - thumbs down seemed like the Farrelly brothers just tried to do a remake of Something About Mary in addition to the actual remake of same named film. All the same gross gags, Ben Stiller being back, and the wife of Stiller's character looks eerily like Cameron Diaz. But while "Mary" was fresh and funny, this was just more gross and played out. I smirked a few times, that's about it.
Coraline - Loved it. Not too Monster Chiller Horror Theatre with the 3d effects. It could have been a bit longer, the second half seemed a little rushed. If only I was on Acid during the viewing of this film..
Grand Turino - Loved it from start to finish. It had a few plot cliches, but Eastwoods performance more than made up for it. And I have never really been much of an Eastwood fan. He was great in this movie. Next movie I will report on...the heartbreaking drama..... Spoiler Shakes the Clown.
Teeth (45%) - Effective, in that it is extremely disturbing at times...but for the most part it was dumb, slow-moving, and not very entertaining. I wouldn't recommend it unless you've really got an hour and a half to waste and it's your only option.
I saw Waking Life the other day, it was pretty good. Very surreal, very thought-provoking. I'd give it 8.5/10.
Rented Prince Caspian last night to watch with the kiddo...I liked it better than the 1st one, although it felt like a kiddie version of The Two Towers. The plot sorta bites. Dawn Treader will be better. 3.5 outta 5 stars. Saw Sicko while working out at the gym the last two days. Pretty interesting stuff. Dont have time to check all the facts but I assume that more is legit than hyped up. A good view, esp when you're trying to not think about riding on a trainer. Better than F911. 4 outta 5 stars.
Gran Torino - 98% Best moral tale I've seen in a long time. Incredible movie. Eastwood is awesome. Spoiler Is it my crazy religion, or did anyone else think it was a Christ story? Walt (Eastwood) shunned his own family (the religious establishment) for the poor and downtrodden "heathens" in his neighborhood. Then he sacrificed himself so that they could be free from their oppressors. Thao's sin? Being a p***y.
Rogue Trader- 8/10 The story about rogue trader Nick Leeson and how he singlehandedly collapsed Barings Bank in England. Movie is about 12 years old, but easily the best movie about trading/finance/Wall Street, etc..imo
If you liked this, you should read Ugly Americans by Mezrich http://www.amazon.com/Ugly-Americans-Cowboys-Markets-Millions/dp/006057500X Leeson plays a fairly significant role in it and you get a different angle on the whole Customer X scenario. (Its not as good as Bringing Down the House, however)
Mirrors -> 6/10 Max Payne -> 1/10 Bank Job -> 7/10 Wanted -> 6/10 Step Brothers -> 6/10 Wall-E -> 8/10 Iron Man -> 8/10 10000 BC -> 8/10 (I actually like this kinda "it could have been like this stuff") Get Smart -> 7/10 Transformers -> 10/10 (I will watch movies an average of 3 times, I've lost count on this movie)
Dark Knight -> 8/10 Terrence View -> 8/10 Eagle Eye -> 5/10 If you are into that Chinese kung fu magic martial arts I can fly type stuff, check out Dragon Inn and Storm Riders and Zu Warriors and I can list a whole crap more
Its a movie with Ewan McGregor that portrays the real life actions of Nick Leeson. The movie came out in 1999, but the events occurred around 1995.
