Yeah he did but I still thought he was solid and not "sucked" like many said in the post game analysis thread. The biggest complaint is about him standing around on offense. I agree he needs to move without the ball more on offense but Artest was standing in one spot also. The only difference is his jumpers was falling tonight. I don't know if they don't move around on offense because Adelman doesn't have it to where they have to move around or what.
Another thing the Rockets need to use more is hard screening. We have bulls like Artest, Landry, Scola and even guys like Battier and Hayes that should be able to allow guys like McGrady, Wafer, Alston and Brooks to shed their defenders. Wafer, Alston and Brooks are more than willing to keep their legs moving to take advanate of such screening. Hopefully, McGrady would do the same. Regardless, I don't know why Adelman doesn't take advantage of our tough guys to set more hard screens a la the Utah Jazz. They are able to execute their offense well no matter who is in the lineup simply because of the stuff Sloan teaches them. Basically, screens, screens and more screens along with movement, movement and more movement. The coach has to teach it and the players need to buy in.
He looked pretty good as an individual player but below average as a team player. It's nice to see some of his fadeaways falling but as soon as he held the ball, the ball movement stops. And he still doesn't play defense whatsoever.
Below average as a team player? I thought he was average to below average as a team player. He was getting his teammates involved. I honestly don't see why he gets blamed for when the movement stops on offense when he gets the ball. When he gets the ball everyone stands around, if they moved around and got open 9 times out of 10 he will find them considering he is pretty damn good at finding the open man.
Yeah this happens when they try to post Yao or when Artest goes 1on1 as well. Tmac at least can pass the ball a lot better than those 2. Tmac shouldn't hang around the 3 point line all day though. He needs to cut to the hoop or go for the offensive rebound sometime.
What people have to realize is that he's not going to play like the Tmac of old. First of all, we have guys like Scola, Artest, Landry, Brooks, Alston who can create their own offense. We havent always had that. Tracy doesnt have to be a guy who scores 25 a night anymore. Maybe some games he will have to do that, but our offense was amazing tonight without him having to be that aggressive. I agree that he needs to get to the line more, but other than that I thought he fit right in to the offense.
I agree, he needs to move without the ball more. He stood at the top of the key while Rafer was doing his thing.
If McGrady didn't hype his comeback, I would give this performance a solid 8-9 out of 10. I was expecting more like a 20/6/6 today with the hype, and was kinda disapponted. A 5/10 or 6/10 for me.
I didnt mind the ball stoppage in his hands that much late in the 4th quarter. It killed time off the clock, and on some teams you put the ball in the hands of the best player in the closing moments. Lebron gets bashed cuz he facilitates to teammates within the offense in the closing minutes instead of taking it upon himself to will the team to victory Except '09 McGrady cant do that anymore. I dont think we're gonna see a 40 point game from him anytime soon, nor do I even want that. He needs to play within the offense and play respectable D, which he looked rusty on both but still efficient shot wise. 6 compared to last year McGrady 7.5 using the current lowered expectations "realistic" scale.
6/10. Too much idle time. He loves to stand around and for that big talk before coming back, he sure disappointed. You'd think $22 mill would have it on his conscience to run a little more. Artest - 9.5/10. Big and strong, just what we need
Exactly. Player movement is not McGrady's fault. If he didn't find the open players taht is a diffferent story. If the players move and get open he will find them.
Glad I'm not the only one that saw that. I messed up in my quote I meant to say I thought he was average to above average.
The first 6 minutes, however, we could talk about 10/10 He looks really thin and in shape though. That's one good thing.
I couldn't tell that he had a 2 week break to rehab his knee, he looks the same to me. 4/10, especially after the last interview with him and his trainer... Hopefully that's just rust and lack of conditioning I saw out there tonight, but I doubt it. Sorry T-Mac, I think you're gonna need another offseason to get anywhere near 100%.
oh give me a break with some of you guys who says he looked good. Horrible man. All he did was take pull-up well-guarded jumpers. They would throw him an iso and he would jab step like 4 times and make a small move and pull up for the J. He took it to the rim like twice, and was still obviously slow. Sure he made some jump shots, but not that impressive. 4/10
