He was so fast. You can see why they chose Clyde to announce games and not Vernon. He would have been entertaining but no filter at all.

If you were a Houston fan in that era, you loved him because he was about the only guy in the league who wasn't scared of playing prime Jordan. He went AT him every time they played(occasionally to the determinant of his team) but more often than not Houston came out on top of Chicago and I think Vernon was at times part of that attitude that allowed them to. That's the narrative that gets lost a lot in the 'Jordan as the GOAT' narrative - Houston matched up very well against them with Dream being the most elite paint defender of all time with his length and quickness surrounded by a bunch of scrappy(and in Vern's case, just mean) defenders who could hit shots if left open and guys like Vernon were the emotional fuel that kept that team fighting.

...the downside with Vernon was he is a habitual line stepper and would cross the line A LOT as you can see from the stories. At some point he became more of a distraction than a emotional leader and the subtext of all of that was Akeem becoming Hakeem(when he converted to Islam) and turning from a fiery hot headed player himself to one of quiet intensity and confidence. Clyde was more suited to that quiet intensity than Vernon was and at that point was a better player too and Vernon became an odd fit with that team.

And that's the 'Vernon Maxwell as a Rocket' experience in a nutshell.

I loved Akeem when he was more hot tempered than Vernon.

Basketball in the 80s and 90s were no joke. Today, the players only care about their social media and night clubs. there's no real beef.

Vernon Maxwell calling Rudy a MF is true.

Rudy and Carroll Dawson lied to Rashard Lewis about getting Drafted by the Rockets.
Rockets had 3 1st Round Picks, passed up Rashard Lewis 3 Times, made Rashard Lewis cry in the Draft Room.

It made me upset in middle school, couldn't stop thinking of the backstabbing by Rudy and Carroll Dawson.

Vernon Maxwell and Gary Payton were in Seattle when Rashard Lewis got drafted by the Seattle Supersonics, Vernon Maxwell told a story how He and Gary Payton really mentored Rashard Lewis. Rashard Lewis became a Max Contract, and a Championship Role Player for Miami Heat.

uhmmm what?! Maxwell, a grown ass man calling Rudy T a MF is just straight up disrespectful, even if it's all just part of his persona on there.

I love watching Max tell these old stories -- I think I've heard him tell the Gary Payton fight story about 5 times and he gets wound up every time.

He isn't using it to disrespect Rudy T -- he's using MFer as verbal punctuation.

MF is a general term in the 90s that could mean anything from enemy or friend

Never lend money out to family/friends that you are not willing to lose. If it’s business (not family or friends) ensure they have assets to borrow against and take them to court if necessary and spend years potentially litigating with the hope it will eventually pay off.
