i could see a 94-95 rockets beat the bulsl championship Longley Olajuwon Rodman/grant ??? Who played here? i forgot Pippen Horry/elie Jordan Drexler/with elie backing him up Harper Smith/ cassell it would go to six or seven games. Who would win? Well i guess we will never know.
Gimme a break, some of you guys are so bias for Hakeem! Jordan would have put Houston on the map all over the world. Back then, we had a big man already in Sampson anyways...lets face it, hakeem's game peaked for like only three years...hakeem, IMO doesn't have that leadership ability and the instincts for the game like the birds, magic, and jordans...Jordan changed the way the game was played to a whole 'nother level.. ------------------
Chen, Hakeem put us on the map all over the world...check out all the people on this board from abroad. Also, Dream took down the mighty Lakers 4 game to 1 in '86 (albeit the Sampson luck shot). Just ask Magic who they couldn't stop. It wasn't Sampson's jumpshot. Jordan, even with his mighty 64 point game of playing Mobley ball against Dennis Johnson, got them nothing. Peak at 3 years is utter lunacy. IMO, it is an extremely tough call to say whether we see another Jordan before another Dream. And Jordan did not change the 90's in the NBA more than Chuck Daly. With all the Larry Hughes out there trying to emulate Jordan, the Daly "rotation defense" that he invented to stop the frontline of Boston is proving more important year in and year out.
right after the 93-94 season we went to Jamaica. a man asked us where we were from. i replied texas. he immediately said texas? as in houston? Houston Rockets? Keem(yes Keem) Olajuwon? Dream put us on the map buddy. the man was an elderly guy that didnt seem to get out much and he could tell me the starting 5 and our top bench men off the top of his head. I then asked him if he was a basketball fan. he said he had never seen a game, article(besides one MJ article), or stats until those NBA finals.
You guys don't get my point...I do agree, Hakeem DID put us on the map, but to what degree? you are sampling from how many ppl in this world to use 'check out all the people on this board from abroad' as your argument? much less one person in Jamaica...This world has billions and billions of people guys....The name that Jordan made for Chicago is so immeasurable compared to Hakeem's impact to houston, wouldn't you agree? I'd say that Jordan has one of the most popular names and face in this world...wonder how hakeem would rank? ------------------
You got me there Partner...good solid points...;p would you agree that he doesn't possess that instincts for the game like the other great ones and dont have that leadership ability though? ------------------
don't know what you are asking...he had unimaginable instincts on defense, and he redefined instincts for speed at center.
Chen, the media market in Chicago had a lot to do with Jordan's appeal worldwide. The league was also looking for a new star as Majic, Bird were approaching their later years. Houston is not as large a market as Chicago nor does the national media ever give any significant attention to Houston. Remember the SI cover after the first Rockets championship? One other thing, Jordan's endorsement deals also had a lot to do with his appeal and notoriety. He had far more endorsement opportunities on a national level than Dream as well. You have to factor all this in to the impact he had on Chicago as a city. ------------------
i thnk most importantly, mikes best move for the first half of his career was driving and dunking it home(and he did it well). while hakeem had a shake and a fadeaway jumper. people though mike could fly while dream could hit a jump shot. and about the man from jamaica, i was just making a point that he has put our team on the map. sure Mike put his on the map and got it highlighted and circled a couple of times, but hey were on the map!
